D3100 battery question

So I picked up a new d3100 a few weeks ago and It's a great camera, I just have one question. When I opened it up for the first time the battery was at half charge; so I just plugged it in to fully charge. I haven't charged it since, and the charge indicator still shows 3 bars. I know that it's supposed to handle about 600 shots before battery goes out(I haven't shot nearly that much photos). I haven't really been torturing the camera, but I've taken it out for whole days of shooting a few times, and I'm just surprised that the battery still shows a full charge. Is this normal? I guess I didn't expect it to have this good of a battery life. I purchased it on june 7 and it's the 29th now and I've only charged it once.

I usually charge mine after each outing...I have 2...One is about 7 years and the other about 5....They still have enough life to shoot 300 images or more

Until just recently, I had the D3100, and your right the battery lasts for ages.
When using my 70-300 with AF and VR on, it would chew the power a bit quicker.

My new D7100 is noticeably heavier on the battery, not sure I would risk going out for a 2nd day shooting on the same battery.

After hearing what you guys had to say, I am reassured that my camera is fine. I just wasn't expecting it to have this good of a battery life. But it's good that the battery life is long. Thanks for the info!

I'm going to agree with the others. I got my D3100 for Christmas 2010. So, 2.5 years later, and over 51,000 shutter clicks later, I'm still very happy with my battery life. I will admit, I did pick up a second, Nikon-branded battery as a backup. I couldn't tell you which one is original and which is the extra. LOL! I always have one fully charged in my bag. And I can take 1000's of shots on one battery!!! (Action shots at indoor Agility trials and indoor dog shows. I do NOT like to use my flash.)

I really went overkill myself, before I took more than a few practice shots. I bought a pro battery grip, and then two extra batteries besides the the two the battery grip takes. So 4 batteries altogether. lol :D
For some unknown reason, I just don't think lack of batteries will be an issue for me. ;)
What do you think? lol :p
