shooting in manual on D3100

How do you shoot in manual? I've been shooting in shutter or aperture priority, manually adjusting ISO but leaving WB in auto (another thing I'm having trouble with).

Obviously, I know the M means Manual, and that I can set my ISO and WB (if I wanted) from there, but how do I adjust the shutter and aperture? I feel so dumb right now.:) I was just messing with it, and it seems like I can adjust the shutter by just turning the little dial in Manual, correct? Because when I adjust it, it shows 1/30, 1/80, 1/125, ect just like in Shutter P. It also looks like if I adjust my aperture in Aperture P, then switch to Manual, the aperture stays the same.

So is that right? Adjust Shutter, ISO and WB in M, switch to A and adjust aperture, then go back to M and shoot?

TIA

I believe there is a small button on top, beside the shutter release, (the one with "+/-" on it) You press and hold that button and spin the dial, this will adjust the aperture in "M" mode. The dial by itself will adjust the shutter speed.

I don't have the D3100, but in Manual mode, the command dial is rotated to adjust the Shutter speed. By holding down the little button marked with the +/- on it and rotationg the command dial you can adjust the Aperture. Using the command dial with other buttons affect other functions.

I have owned the Nikon D80, D90 and D7000 and have purchased this DVD for each one of them and found it very helpful. To me it is much easier to watch a DVD about the model of camera that you have purchased instead of trying to read a book and learn from print. This DVD will take you through all the basics of your Nikon D3100 and I think you will find it well worth the money you spend.
