I would like to purchase a decent flash unit but don't have a lot of cash and would like to know if this unit is any good?
Are there any gotchas?

Thanks,
Miker

James,

Thanks for your input I ran across the YN565EX after I posted but it's twice the price.
From research I've done the 560 does not communicate with the camera except the triggering whereas the 565 does, would this be correct?

Thanks,
Mike

I agree Mike....I've been very impressed with what I've been reading. I guess it's just a matter of choosing which model to go with. I'm not sure there's enough in the 560II to choose it over the regular 560 so for me the choice would come down to the 560 or the 565. If you're just looking for an off camera slave flash the price on the 560 is amazing! Whichever one you choose, do make sure you come back and update this thread with your experience with it.

James,

This will be my first flash (not in camera) and I am on a very limited budget and I already blew this months on Lightroom 4 but will probably pick it up next month, but when I do get it I will try to remember to post back here. (My memory's not what it used to be)
I have gotten a lot of good advice from people on here and on their recommendations got 2 lenses (35mm/f1.8 and a 55mm-200mm) for a cross country trip I took back in the fall and snapped over 4K pictures. A lot turned out very good, but it was an experience taking pictures from a moving vehicle (semi-truck), but the experience was great and I learned a lot about photography. (Now I know just enough to be dangerous:) )

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. I just ordered a YN5600II for $16.25, well within budget, thanks for the help and I will post back on progress.

Thanks again

Well I received the YN560II and got to play with it a little and it performs very well. Haven't used it much picked up a bug and when I recover will get to play with it a tad more but from what I've done with it so far it was worth the money and am really looking forward to doing more with it.
