Hi, could someone please advise. I am totally inexperienced with photography. I have got a D5000, a speedlight SB 700. I am trying to use the flash off camera but I can't sync it with my Nissin Air 1 remote. Could someone advise please. Thank you in anticipation.

I don't think that flash will work with that trigger. That tirgger is a radio trigger and uses 2.4mhz... that's a radio signal... That SB 700 uses Nikon CLS which is NOT a radio device but uses a series of flashes from the Nikon CLS system controllers... IOW, they're two different technologies...

I'm assuming you know for sure the Air 1 commander you have is spec'ed for Nikon (versus Canon, Sony, etc.) But do you also have a Nissin Air R trigger attached to the SB-700? Because you need both a transmitter (that's your Air 1 Commander) and a trigger to operate wireless off-camera flash using an SB-700.

As @FredKingston mentioned, Nikon's CLS operates completely different. You might need to buy a Nikon commander flash as what I'm reading indicates the D5000 doesn't support CLS. No additional receiver is required providing you are using a Nikon made flash that supports CLS (which your SB-700 does). But I'm pretty sure you would need to purchase something that acts as a Nikon commander flash to fire your SB-700.

And as Horoscope Fish said, your other brand trigger (meaning anything other than made by Nikon) needs to be matched with a identical brand receiver that is attached to the bottom of your SB-700.

Below might be the receiver that goes with your current trigger, but please check to make sure it is the correct compatible receiver.

Thank you to everyone for your help and advice. I probably should have read up more about it before purchasing. It also looks like I now need to spend more on a trigger. Thanks again.

Do you live in the continental USA? If so, I have a trigger/receiver set I can send you at no charge. Let me know!

Hi,thanks for your help. I have purchased an Air R to go along side my Air 1. Both Nikon, I may add. I have paired them but still the SB 700 doesn't react. 'm at my wits end with this and I'm feeling pretty stupid about it. Am I missing something simple? Do i need to change any settings on me D5000?. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind offer. I am in the UK. I have purchased an Air R but even though they are paired, the flash SB700 isn't responding. Thanks again.

Sorry guys, I feel so foolish. I had the flash set to Remote, rather than Master. I really do appreciate all your replies and thank you for your kind help.
