Setting for High School Football

Hi!
I need some help on setting up my D3000 (using a AF-S Nikkor 55-300 1:4 5-56 lens) for night time football. The lighting does change as the game goes on...from late in the day light to stadium lights. The image in the viewfinder is clear but are blurry when I look at them later. I have seen photos that are very nice so I know there is a combination to get photos that I want to take, I just don't know what the right combination is. Help!?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

You face three major challenges getting good nighttime high school football images.

First, the stadium lighting at many high schools is really quite dim.

Two, the high ISO performance of the D3000 is not very good.

Three, your lens is fairly slow at F4.5 to F5.6 maximum and the fast football action will require some decent shutter speeds, which makes this lens even more of a problem.

As you can see from the above, you will face quite a challenge getting great images, but give it a shot.
