First post, absolute newbie. I'm borrowing a camera from a friend with an option to buy. I don't have the cable that came with the camera (not sure one did). So I went to a cable store and picked up what I assumed was the proper USB of cable. It fits in the camera just fine. However, when I hookup the cable to the camera and PC and turn on the camera, Windows is not detecting the camera. I don't get the little "new device found" jingle nor does it appear in the Device Manager.

I downloaded ViewNX 2 which I thought might have some kind of driver necessary for detection. Started the app, and clicked on the Transfer button. But still no luck.

Hoping someone might have some kind of insight as to what I could be doing wrong, or what steps I still need to take.

Thanks for any input!
Rick

I don't have a card reader on "this" computer, but my work laptop has a card reader and the card worked fine. Yes, I know I could just use my work laptop to snag images, then pull them over to my other computer via USB stick, but that more hassle than I'd like to go through if I can avoid it

Yes, I turned the camera on. Legit question, I've seen a lot of people miss the obvious as well. :)
Yes, LOVE RUSH! Love it when people make the connection.

Oh good gawd... Ok, Hororscope Fish... Remember how you asked if I had turned it on, and I was saying, hey great question because sometimes people miss the obvious? Well... I didn't miss THAT, but I did find the problem. I just was not pushing the cord all the way into the camera. Almost as obvious. :very_drunk:

Everything working great! Thanks guys for the replies.

Yeah, those questions have to be asked... Glad to hear the solution was something simple.

Looks like you're king now, not just one more pawn.

Some people may not be old enough to remember "Fly by Night". Then again, maybe they just aren't "In the Mood". Personally, I think it's all a "Witch Hunt" until "Presto", you have a "Ghost of a Chance" at getting that USB connection working like a "Working Man".
