Did you buy the camera or was it a gift?

Also ask @fotojack to email you his little Nikkonites D300 welcome kit!

He will chime in soon I am sure....

Just in case you don't have it here is linky to the D300 owners manual.

http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/noprint/D300_en_noprint.pdf

The camera also came with a quick start card/ guide but don't think it is avail on line....

youtube also your friend:

I believe this is broken up into 3 videos...... excellent stuff!

There is also a brilliant D700 tutorial on line avail share nearly identical controls and layout to D300

You have used both on other Nikon cameras safe to say?

The D series Nikon AF lenses have to be locked at the smallest aperture and clipped in place by the little clip thingy......in order to perform auto focus and metering....

I am sure you are aware of that, mentioned only in case the lenses are new to you as well.... owners manuals for the lenses are also avail via Nikon USA.

As you can see from my signature I am a big fan of D series FX glass!

Im going to be on the phone ranting first thing as i had a event tonight :(

Ranting is not the best idea, just explain what the problem is and give them every chance to fix it, they may send you a replacement out, I have dealt with MPB and they have been very good.

Check the switch below the lens release button... make sure it's not on M (for manual focus... vs C or S). Hopefully that's your focus issue. Not sure about your Aperture issue. What mode are you shooting in? Try like M with a lens attached and see if it allows you to change aperture (using the front dial).

Checked all them and put the 70-300 on and it worked for a little while after taking one shot when it was stuck at f22 then it went back to it again so im assuming its with the body somewhere so will get in touch with them first thing

Too bad, I was hoping it was the D series aperture ring, my lenses and camera bodies act like that when I forget to lock the aperture ring to the F32,F22 etc....LOL!

It was worth a comment, hoping you were new to D series glass as well.

Good luck, let us know how you make out!

Hellwing, if you PM me your email address, I will send you the D300 Setup Guide. It's in PDF format, so can't send it through Nikonites.

Shame - hope they sort it for you. I intend to shoot D300s' forever having just upgraded my D300 to a pair of D300s' just so as to reduce the accumulating shutter count.

I stick with using KEH they have always treated me great I had two problems with gear and they replaced both items quick and fast. I belive most everything they sell comes with a 6 month warranty also.
