Used D300 shutter count/condition

Hello D300 people,

I am considering purchasing a used D300 in the near future. Considering the availability of used bodies out there, what do you think a reasonable shutter count would be for this model?
Some people take great care of their equipment and others not so much so the number of clicks isn't the only consideration. I have seen estimate of 20k or 10k/ year. I have no clue what is reasonable for say excellent condition vs good vs run for your life (other than obvious abuse).

I have read up on buying used, and my Dad has purchased used cameras before so I have his knowledge to dip into as well.

Thanks Everybody,
-DP-

I'd try to get one 25k actuations or less in great shape. A lot will depend on what your willing to spend, where you buy from, what extras comes with it too. Adorama and other top notch stores can have some pretty great deals on used Nikon's. As for eBay, check the photos, description and reputation level and actuation count. Read and look at everything carefully, so your buying experience isn't regretted because you missed something in the photos or discription.
I love my D300 and I hope you'll love yours if you decide to get one! :D

Thank you for replying.
Evil-bay can be frustrating . I was ready to purchase a d200 in great condition and missed out while shopping. I used that as a sign to get a newer model (that is my excuse anyway).

It looks like Adorama has several available. KEH has one right now.

Just need to stash away some funds over the next month or so and hope the stores have some good deals when I am ready.

I got mine from Adorama with less then 8000 clicks. They had it listed in "E" condition, but it arrived almost in new condition.
Got it for 400 dollars. Could not be happier.

That is good to hear. I was reading your posts on your buying adventure. I am glad things turned out well for you. I hope I can get one in that good a condition.

I think a lot of these places like Adorama, and B&H understate the condition on purpose, so the customer will always be happy and will give a good recommendation to others.

Whatever the reason, it's great to be able to rely on their descriptions... and their no-hassle return policy if what you buy used doesn't meet expectations. I've bought lots of stuff used from KEH and been delighted. Same reaction to the recent arrival of a D200 from B&H. Have yet to try Adorama used, but, judging from the competition, would expect to be very pleased there, too.

Any used body or lens from Adorama rated D, E+, E or E- comes with a 6-month warranty - which includes a 30-day returns period for exchange or refund.

Thanks for the information, Helen. I will be looking at Adorama when I am ready to pull the trigger on a camera. I am hoping to get a good price on a used body with low actuations. (Aren't we all? ;))

Thanks again for responding, D300 people.

BTW if you find something you like the look of, let me know if you'd like a shutter count and / or pictures before making your decision! [email protected]

I bought mine with more than 50k actuations. After 3 years, it is still great and I didn't check how many actuations. D300 is a very robust camera. Unless the previous owner abuses it, I don't think you will have any serious problem.

The D300 is the camera I lusted after the most. I'm so glad I finally got one (last year).

By the way...if you do eventually get one (and I hope you do), PM me your email address and I will send you the D300 Setup Guide for it.

I recently picked up a D300 on kijiji.ca The guy was selling a bunch of stuff with it. I picked the package up for $500 and after selling the things off I have $200 into the D300. I had to watch for a while, and jump on it when I found it. I also still have an awesome Manfroto tripod from the deal and a tiny Lowerpro Back Pack. I got the camera with all the original packaging and in great shape. When I Checked the shutter count online - My Shutter Count.com the camera had just over 4,000 clicks. Couldn't believe it. The guy had 2 D700's and had just kept this as a backup. It's an awesome camera that packs a lot of punch!!
