Nikon released new firmware for the D300 (version 1.11) and D300s (version 1.02) to support the new AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR.

Did anybody who downloaded this update notice any differences in their D300s ?Is it worth updating regardless of the ability to attach a 800m lens now ?Thanks

I skipped performing this update, but I recall some users complained third party batteries no longer worked in their D300 following the update.

Well you can skip it, however if one comes for some of those newer lenses like the 300mm F4 and other lenses you may lose out on functionality.

I live by one rule when it comes to updating. This goes for anything not just cameras.
If I don't need it then I don't.
