Stuck on a single red focus square

Hello everyone, I have having some trouble with the autofocus on my D3S. The camera is stuck only focusing on a single red square. I am able to move the square around by using the directional pad, it is not in the locked position on the dial, so I am confused as to why I am not able to auto focus. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm confused: You say you're using auto-focus (albeit using one focus-point) but then you say you're not able to auto-focus. ??

I am sorry I am having a hard time explaining, I am only able to manually focus my lens. When I look through the viewfinder the is a red square that is constantly highlighted.

Ah, okay.

So you turn the camera on, and without doing anything (no button pressing), there is a focus-point that is already illuminated, and it's illuminated all the time...

Is that correct?

Okay, that's a problem. The focus point should NOT be illuminated all the time like that.

The only thing I can think of to try is doing things like turning off the camera and removing the battery. Wait a few minutes, reinsert the battery, fire up the camera and hope that solves the issue. Maybe swap the lens while the camera is off, clean the lens contacts while you're at it, both on your lens(es) and the camera body. Someone will probably suggest resetting the camera settings, and I guess you should probably try that, but I don't think this is a "settings" issue. Not really sure what else to suggest, other than having a professional repair shop have a look at it.

Good luck! I hope the solution is a simple one.
