I know it's obsolete but i just wanted to have in my hand a solid object like a Pro Nikon for when the day comes i move up from the D700.
No it's not a stellar performer as far as dynamics, it's lazy after 200 ISO and you have to play postman when you get your results into light room.
I can see the dynamic differences compared to the D700 right off before i did post.
But what a nice piece of magnesium with a great feel and balance a huge viewfinder A Big Plus i haven't seen since my F5 days.
I like heavy bodies as i can steady it at low shutter speed.
Actually holding my D700 with the extra grip it feels heaver than the D2x.
It was to cheap to pass up guy had it for $75.00 with 49k shutter count charger and one battery, that doesn't seem to drain as quickly compared to the other DSLR's I've owned in the past.
Other than missing the USB rubber side cover it looks like it was a studio queen or just taken good care of.
Seems these rubber side covers are like Hens Teeth so yes parts are one minus factor if things break.
using my old D200's Nikor18-55 VR kit lens.

So i bought a used D2h for the rubber side cover that's missing on my D2x, it was sold broken Err issues the dreaded one shot Err shows up.
I figured $35.00 i have a dead camera to try and fix and i get my cover.
Turns out this camera did it on every other shot, it would take a photo then Err then sound like the shutter went half way on the next shot no image take another shot it recorded image with Err.
Well it turns out i got the D2h to work, cranked the shutter and ran a barrage of frames a couple times and it stopped the full time Err.
Only happens once the first shot when you turn the camera on.
How long this will hold up?
Who knows.

Now I'm owner of two cameras.

Well i just ordered another D2x for sure the parts it was $38.00 shipped.
It is buy as is so it may or may not work according to KEH.
Been toying with the D2H and for what it is it's not a bad camera for street photography and day time shooting.

I remember the colors being really nice on the D2's and the D200. I wasn't very impressed with the D300 colors when it came out. Like the D2/200, I'm keeping my old D700 around because I like the colors that it produces. Only a couple of months ago did I let my dual D200's go, I gave them to my sister to help bring her into the photography family.

My D700 is staying till it or me dies.
Working on getting a D3 or D3X reason i bought these D2 models to get an insight on how it will feel.
So far the view finder is heaven the weight i like it's actually lighter then the D700 with a grip and two batteries.
The color of skin is natural on the D2H and the D2X.
I had two D200's and although they were great and the skin tone was solid, when i moved to the D700 all changed.
Would i like a D800? Sure but i can't see why.
I would need to upgrade my lenses because the D800 will most likely out resolve some of them.
I shot film for years Fuji Velvia 50, 100 and Fuji PRO 400 transparencies and the D2H clearly is superseding the Velvia hands down.
I looked over my old work recently, my Press photos of way beck and yes the color and feel of the old Fuji still has that magic but on the whole, the Digital wins.
But then i worked for a news paper and less grain and jumping color wasn't my first concern.
It was the magic sharp shot, the Velvia filled in the missing pieces.
These days press photographers are thinning I phones are all over the place for that moment captured in time, hell most i phone shots look better than film.
And everyone has been on the MP wars, i see no fun it that.
Thank goodness photojournalism is still alive and well..
These are great cameras to bang around the streets with and cheap enough no to worry if one get stolen or gets broken.

The D2 is also lighter than a D200 with the battery pack/grip. Both of my D200’s had grips.

The D2 series is just a solid camera all around. The only drawback is ISO performance BUT if you come from a film background, like myself, the ISO performance is perfectly fine.

No going to the fridge to figure out what roll to use, maybe get a couple of shots on that one roll of film and then make the time to get to a darkroom to see how your shots came out.

Digital has spoiled photographers.

The next D2x came in, wow great looker condition BUT!! Bent card reader pin everything as far as meter and AF works
But after straightening the pin card slipped right into place i get a CHR Err and card icon blinking.
It's not the card green light comes on but takes a long time to go off and Format takes longer than normal if it's even formatting at all.
So i don't think it's making connection the way it should.
$70.00 for a new card reader and from what I'm looking at a deep dive into the body to get to it.

Of the year down photos?
I don't understand, you mean a detailed tear it apart and forget how to put it back together photo tutorial?:)
I would love a repair manual that gets that deep into this camera..
So far i see it as a parts camera as i intended it to be.
But the condition is dam mint and would like to get her up and running.
Until i can find a manual i can download and open a repair manual it's a paper weight.
I tried two manuals already and both failed to open and a third was corrupted:mad:.

I looked through my documents and all I have is the owners manual and Thom Hogan’s book on the D2x, I wish I had more for you.

I will have to find a seller on line that sells one.
I wonder if the D2h reader is the same?
I have the D2h but hate to pull that apart and then find out the D2x has more issues than a card reader!!

If the camera is unusable as is, you have nothing to lose by opening it up. Keep us posted on what you decide.

This has thinking if I could buy a beat up D300 and swap the memory card readers from the D300 to the D700 giving me dual card slots, hmm...

Now that would be interesting..
Well what i would lose would be $65.00 for a card reader..
That's why i am going to get a little more answers from a shop and have them take a quick look over on what functions are working to see if i should do the reader swap.

So after taking it to a repair shop in Albuquerque a couple weeks ago he determined it was a short in the reader.
$60.00 it's ready to pick up tomorrow apparently working..
Fingers crossed.
So if all is good i did alright without touching it.
So in the end I'm in for $100.00 total camera and repair.
