Re: I just had to do it D2x buy..

The next D2x came in, wow great looker condition BUT!! Bent card reader pin everything as far as meter and AF works
But after straightening the pin card slipped right into place i get a CHR Err and card icon blinking.
It's not the card green light comes on but takes a long time to go off and Format takes longer than normal if it's even formatting at all.
So i don't think it's making connection the way it should.
$70.00 for a new card reader and from what I'm looking at a deep dive into the body to get to it.

    Of the year down photos?
I don't understand, you mean a detailed tear it apart and forget how to put it back together photo tutorial?
I would love a repair manual that gets that deep into this camera..
So far i see it as a parts camera as i intended it to be.
But the condition is dam mint and would like to get her up and running.
Until i can find a manual i can download and open a repair manual it's a paper weight.
I tried two manuals already and both failed to open and a third was corrupted.

I looked through my documents and all I have is the owners manual and Thom Hoganís book on the D2x, I wish I had more for you.

I will have to find a seller on line that sells one.
I wonder if the D2h reader is the same?
I have the D2h but hate to pull that apart and then find out the D2x has more issues than a card reader!!

If the camera is unusable as is, you have nothing to lose by opening it up. Keep us posted on what you decide.

This has thinking if I could buy a beat up D300 and swap the memory card readers from the D300 to the D700 giving me dual card slots, hmm...

    Now that would be interesting..
Well what i would lose would be $65.00 for a card reader..
That's why i am going to get a little more answers from a shop and have them take a quick look over on what functions are working to see if i should do the reader swap.

Re: I just had to do it D2x buy..

So after taking it to a repair shop in Albuquerque a couple weeks ago he determined it was a short in the reader.
$60.00 it's ready to pick up tomorrow apparently working..
    Fingers crossed.
So if all is good i did alright without touching it.
So in the end I'm in for $100.00 total camera and repair.
