    Newbie asking... newbie questions

A good friend of mine gave/traded a D200 to me. I hadn't had much want for another camera, but have slowly grown to like it...a lot.

Last night, pulling it out of the bag - it was in the ON position. No big deal, just charge the battery. The battery charger indicated charged, quickly. But, in putting it back in, the battery indicator said nearly dead.. the LCD screen wouldn't come on.. AND... it won't take pictures.

My thoughts tell me the battery is kaput...but would like to get an experienced take on it. Your thoughts?

I'd throw it back in the charger a couple times. If you get same results, it's toast.

I'd let it charge overnight and then see where you're at. A totally dead EN-EL3e battery will take a while juice up to full capacity.

Worst case scenario is you end up dropping $30 or $40 on a new battery.

I would get a new battery, if you do get the old one working, then you can use it as a spare.

Good advice on charging the battery and getting a second one.

Welcome to the forum. You need a new battery and get a spare while you are at it. I have 5 batteries for my 2 cameras. I do have a couple of Wasabi brand batteries that I can't tell any difference in them and the Nikon brand ones. They are a lot cheaper

    Amazon.com : Wasabi Power Battery (2-Pack) and Charger for Nikon EN-EL3e and Nikon D50, D70, D70s, D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, D300S, D700 : Digital Camera Batteries : Camera & Photo

    $26.99 for 2 and a new charger.
