Hey fotojack...

I just got myself an 85mm macro lens. What settings do you recommend for the D200. Thanks.
Rich.

I know this is for fotojack but anyway.

All of them :) lol would really depend on what you are shooting. On my 90mm macro I use 1/320 flash sync (1/250 if not able). ISO 100 - 1000 depending on lighting, f/11 - 22, flash diffuser. exp comp +1.0 - 3.0. These are my basic settings for macro and bugs

On My D7100 and 105 micro lens, I start by setting my camera to ISO 200, f16, 1/250 for flash sync, exp comp +3.0, I put a diffuser on the end of my lens for the onboard flash, similar to what Scott uses.
I check how the shots look on the back screen as I am going, I find I dont have to change much from that, I would rather my shots were a little on the dark side, easy to lighten them up a bit in PP.

I think if you start by using those settings, and check what they look like on the back screen as you go, and make changes on the go if need be, you should be off to a good start.

Sorry to derail, but Brad can you explain this statement

"I put a diffuser on the end of my lens for the onboard flash"
Not sure I have seen something of this nature, so just curious what this device is.

OP, not into macro just yet but I follow all macro threads to learn as much as possible.

Thanks, guys. You've answered his question. :)
Actually, now that I re-read my question, I didn't word it right. I meant to ask, of the setup sheet that you sent me which one do you use? A B C or D? Thanks for all the other advice everyone I will try it out this weekend on hopefully some spiders.

Looking forward to seeing your results.
I found it wasnt til about the 3rd session with my new lens that I started to get some good "keepers". What was working with my old 55mm macro, didnt necessarily work with the 105mm, there was a bit of a learning curve to go with it.

If shooting macro? None of those! I shoot macro in Manual Mode. None of the Modes on that sheet is set up for macro. However, if you want, YOU can change any one of those modes (A,B,C or D) to macro mode settings of your choice. I hope you understand what I mean by this. :)
