WooHoo, I got one

I've been working with my new D3100 which I bought without researching enough and didn't realise it was a beginners DSLR
I've now managed to get a mint condition(5500 activations) D200 body so I can use my 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses. Als for pennies.o lets me utillise all
th earlier Nikkor lenses which you can get on the Bay of E
Also got the MB-D200 grip and spare batteries.

Well, this is an entirely different beast to the D3100. I just wish I'd got one to start with.
It's a terrific piece of kit and feels like it's gonna outlive me.

I've been nightshift this week so I've been taking it with me and playing with it while reading the manual(a first for me)
I've learned most of the basic functions in a couple of readings but still have along way to go but I'm loving it already

Oh, by the way, it only cost me £249 with 5500 activations, in original box with all manuals,etc....A bargain

I used a Jessops AFD360 flash with the D3100 but I'm now looking at an i-TTL flash like the Metz or Nissin ones

Congratulations sir it is a fine camera. Our resident D200 expert would be Jack I'm sure he can tell you anything you need to know about the camera.

amazing,, 5500 shots, barely used, the 200 has the wonderful 10 Meg CCD sensor, very dynamc looking,, vibrant. Keep the ISO 400 or lower for optiminum noise, this sensor will produce wonderful images, but push it too hard, and you will get lots of noise.

absolutely right as far as features, perfect serious starter camera. Have fun.

You never need anything more than 500 shutter speed and 2.8 and ISO 400 for 99% of the stuff you will ever do is my motto...LOL (especially when you are talking Scottish landscapes)

Not a starter camera it is pro level... :)

I've sent him the D200 PDF setup guide to get him going, as far as useful settings are concerned. Each Bank (A, B, C &D) has it's own settings when set on Program. Very useful for quick setup shots.

Thanks for the file Jack, it'll keep me busy this weekend.
As said, landscapes and wildlife are what I enjoy and I live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet for that.

Av is my preferred option but I'm hoping to get to some local sporting events so Tv will be getting some use as well.

Must admit, the D200 is a wee bit more advanced than my old Minolta X300 and X700;)
I'll looking forward to getting acquainted with it

"Tv" is Canon terminology. Nikon simply uses "S" for Shutter Mode and "A" for Aperture Mode. ;)

We don't use Canon terminology around here. :)

WOW, the more I play with this, the more I love it.
I've been adding some bits to enhance the experience

Giottos MTL9351B with MH5001 3 way head
Nikkor 50mm f1.8D lens
Nissin Di622 mark 2 flash(BNIB for £50)
Optech strap

Just hope the tripod arrives quickly as I'm planning some night shots this weekend.
