Mrs. Kuykendall's S9900 NYC shots

Won't bore you with a lot of the wife's photos but thought I would add a few to shot how her little s9900 did. She really appreciates her D7000 a lot more now but does agree that if would have been difficult for her to carry around in the city. All processing was done by her in Lightroom and Photoshop and using the Plugins Nik and DxO Viewpoint.

looking at these Don you can see why so many photographers feel they dont need or want the bulk of a DSLR for the type of images they want.

They do a pretty good job overall but when you start editing them you can see the differences. The problem my wife had was that she was pushing the camera's limitations like she does on my D7000. She gets by with it on the D7000 but she lost quite a few shots with the Coolpix because of it. But I do think the little camera has a place even for me on occasions. It is just like any other camera we use. You learn its limitations and stay within them and you can get some good photos.

She is killer with the D7000 too. Here she is taking a photo of two the finest Nikonites in that part of the park that day and that time.

I never used an ultra wide on a DX body which prompts my question. This image lacks the stretch (distortion) along its two sides that I generally see with ultra wide images. Was it cropped, or is it because this is a DX body? Or does that distortion only become more apparent on FX? Do you know?

By the way, nice images from the Mrs! ;)

Great photos. The first one shows the building where my son used to live. Just in back of the boats in the marina. Lower Manhattan, Battery Park City.
I know this area all to well.

The lens is the Tokina 11-16 so 11 on a DX is not all that wide And no it is not cropped. I use this lens a lot more than I thought I would when I bought it. Great for indoors when you need more of the area to show. Once you learn how to shoot correctly with a wide angle you don't have as much distortion to deal with and what you do have can be handled in post with ease

When I use my 14mm on FX, there is a little stretching on the long ends even when I try to keep the sensor parallel to the subject to avoid parallax. Since I never used 11mm on DX, I wasn't sure if it would happen. I imagine 11mm on DX would be similar to 16mm on FX--a focal length I have never used on FX. Thanks for letting me know!

Well done. I haven't used my Coolpix A for much landscape shooting yet, but it's easy to carry and takes some nice shots.
