Coolpix S2700 Lens error, lens will not come out

Hi,

I have a Coolpix S2700 camera, one month old, and the lens will not come out anymore. When I turn the camera on it gives "Lens error" on the display.
Can this be checked/repaired? while it is covered under warranty?

Welcome!

I don't have that camera. Did you check your manual? There should be a section on Error Messages. If the camera is one month old, contact Nikon or an authorized Nikon repair facility for warranty coverage.

Thanx Marilynne.
No, no section Error Messages in the manual.
Before some years I had also a Nikon Coolpix, same problem. I read at forums that a lot of people have this problem. Maybe it is sand? but then it is better not to buy a camera like this. I didn't go to the beach, so what if you go to the beach??
But I will contact the dealer, hope they can do something for me ;-)

Did you try to leave the battery out for an hour or so and try again? I read somewhere that sometimes does the trick.

This is usually a fatal issue caused by impact or sand/dirt. If it is still under warranty you can send to Nikon, but if they do not cover it under warranty it's time for a new camera.

Well the battery did not do the trick.

Also thanx to you LensWork
I wrote Nikon and already have a reply, I wait more info and will let it know here when I have this.

I have an answer from Nikon, they asked me to try this first before sending the camera.

"Remove the battery and the memory card from the camera and re-insert only the battery. Turn on the camera and select at the set-up menu default settings and choose Yes or OK to restore default settings. If the lens error is due to conflicting settings the camera will function after this as normal.

In my case it didn't work, on the display I got lens error and I cannot go to any menu, nothing responds.
I will send the camera to Nikon because I have still warranty and then just wait and hope they can fix it for free, but maybe this info is useful for somebody who read this thread.

At weebee, I bookmarked this page, if Nikon cannot fix the problem, or will ask a lot of money, I will try this all ;-)
