I think its a very cleverly priced camera, my p900 is great just wish it had RAW this new one does and many new features not on the older model, plus extra zoom for what this series is predominantly known for.

This is probably the only way to sell P&S cameras, namely offering something cell phones can't do. I still wonder whether the price tag is too steep for the general public but time will tell how well it sells. It's hard to imagine at $1000 a P1000 will create much new sales outside camera owners, but let's hope it does.

Interesting camera nonetheless and should be received well in the enthusiast market. I hope it will be a big hit.

I won't buy one since the feature set isn't right for me, but god spede Nikon!

Had to make two posts as the system will not let me qoute and post images in the same post.

There will be things that limit it at 3000mm the biggest will be difraction with that size sensor and f8 @3000mm, many said the P900 @ 2000mm wouldnt work but i have seen a lot worse images posted from DX and FX gear, while not perfect my images below @ 2000mm are not bad.

At 3000mm using a rather small sensor I cant see it putting that many pixels on the subject, itlooks like what we in the UK used to call "mutton dressed as lamb."

The other way more likley, if you crop a full frame down to this sensor size it would most of the time have less pixels on the subject (not worked it out for all cameras ).

This youtube video explains the differences between the P900 and the new P1000.
Not that much in it really, I will stick with my P900.

Since I first heard of the P1000, I've read quite a few scathing comments in reviews about the size of the sensor including several who were favourable of the impressive zoom but rebuked Nikon for not using a larger sensor whilst unironically complaining that the P1000 is significantly heavier than the P900. If that all needs explaining, I regret that I don't have the patience to do so. Likewise, that a smaller sensor necessarily means fewer pixels.

Mutton dressed as lamb refers to old, tough meat being presented as young tender meat and was most often used to describe an older woman dressing like young woman so I don't see how that metaphor applies here. There are drawbacks of a small sensor such as reduced light gathering but the compensations in other features will far outweigh those issues for most people. It is what it is. It does what it does. I remember when the very thought of a camera/lens combination having such capabilities as this being the subject of an April Fools joke in a photographic magazine some time in the early 1980s. If anybody back then had said, 'yeah, but it has a small sensor', I doubt anybody would have left the queue to buy one.

I have a P900 which I usually have in my rucksack with my D5500. I get slightly more use out of the D5500 but there are times when the P900 comes into its own. I have no regrets buying it but will probably be trading it in for the raw capabilities of the P1000.

Hi all,

Newb here and amature photogrpher. Moved from e80 to the new P1000 which just arrived. I probably can't give a very professional review but glad to answer questions if I can. My e80 connected seamlessly to my MacBook Pro over Wifi but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the P1000 connected, Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd

Over the past few weeks I started looking into the P1000 and yes, while a little pricey for a CoolPix line I think I'm going to really enjoy this camera... I decided to make my purchase today thru Amazon after looking around the net for folks who had them in stock...

I ran across an eBay ad for one (pre-order) and just about choked to see the price tag the seller put on it..

I'm guessing that the guy REALLY don't want to sell cameras or he's thinking that maybe, just maybe someone does not look around and will impulse buy from him at $2824.76...

I should have mine this coming Thursday and will probably have 300 shots thru the lens by this time next week...
