Hi all

Just joined the forum, hoping to pick your brains. I've been a Nikon user for many years, currently with several D80 bodies and Nikon 105mm lens for macro shots of moths & butterflies, and Tamron 200-500mm for bird photography. Contemplating buying the Coolpix P900 to cover all bases, but I would like to know what the minimum aperture of the P900 is. I currently use around f/25 for my macro work, does the P900 come anywhere close in this respect? Just can't find this information on Nikon manuals.

Welcome to the forum, the minimum aperture will not relate the same as it does on your D80,i think its about f6,5 but you will have a lot more depth of field with it having a smaller sensor,i use the P610 and can cover dragonfly's ect no problem and retain a lower ISO.

Just to give you a idea, the P610 is basically the same just a shorter zoom, this was taken at f6.5 with ISO of 110.

Thanks to "nikonpup" and "mikew" for your responses. I looked at the nikonusa site but couldn't find the information within the technical specs, however within the forum I DID find the answer as being f/8. And seeing the dragonfly image gives me hope that the depth of field of the P900 will be adequate. I didn't realise how the sensor size could affect depth of field, just thought it would be similar to my D80 setup. Thanks again.

Well it is the same, but different :D,if you cropped the same sensor size from your D80 you would see the same thing but not have enough pixels to make a decent image, the normal problem with a bridge camera is too much DOF.
