Nikon Transfer NkMCStarter Issue

I have a D300s and use Nikon Transfer to get my raw files into Lightroom.

I bought a MacPro (Lion) in Feb this year and decided to transfer all my images onto this machine (I was previously using an XP PC for this).

I installed Nikon Transfer 1.5.2 on the MacPro. Everytime I launch Nikon Transfer, I get the irritating message ""You can't open the application NkMCStarter because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".

Despite the error, it seems to work fine, and accepts images off the camera onto the hard drive.

Having checked, I think that I am on the current version of Nikon Transfer (1.5.2), but this error everytime I open the application is really irritating me and I am also not sure if something is not working in the application that I have not tried yet.

I have googled the error, but don't find any help as regards to NkMCStarter. What is it? How do I get rid of this error?

Thanks Fred. Is the message center built in to Transfer, or is a standalone program?

I guess what I am trying to figure out, is if I can switch it off and get rid of this error message?

It sounds like it's a startup file intended for Windows, but somehow got installed as a startup file in the Mac... I have some silly message that did the same thing for some UPS software that displays every time I start my Mac... and haven't been able to find it... Try searching the hard drive with the Mac Viewer and see if you can find the file, and delete it..???

Power PC went the way of the dodo bird when Apple started to use Intel chips - Power PC has nothing to do with Windows and PC does not mean Personal Computer. Below is what your version of Nikon transfer is supported on:

  • CPU: Power PC G4 / G5; Intel Core Series / Xeon series
  • Mac OS 10.4.11, 10.5.8, 10.6.2
  • 60MB required hard disk space for installation ( 1GB or more recommended when running)
  • RAM: 512 MB free or more ( 1GB recommended )
  • Built in USB or Firewire
  • DISPLAY: 1024 x 768 pixels (XGA) or more; 24-bit color (millions of colors) or more
Further:
Nikon Transfer is now included with View NX 2, and this version is for older computers only. Please see View NX 2 above for your image transfer needs.

1.5.2 was the latest and last version for Mac. As stated above with the supported platform, PowerPC Macs were the last Apples to be supported. Therefore, it is understandable that it is not working right on your brand-new 2012 machine.

Thankyou so much AC016 and everyone else. I thought that software must have changed.

I am downloading ViewNX2 now.
