Post your GIMP edited photographs

Hi! My desktop PC is running GNU/Linux and one of the most powerful editing software available on this system is GIMP. I like this program, unfortunatly a drawback for photographers is that it can't handle 16-bit images so I use most of the time alternative software. However it comes handy in some occasion when I have to do some special editing as the example below (an image resulting of 120 exposures of 30 seconds each stacked in Gimp).

I've seen that there is other users on this forum who are using Gimp. I'll be curious to see what they are doing with it.

Hello sir. I am one of those GIMP users I imagine you are referring too. I have used the GIMP for many years now and have done lots of different stuff for it. Mainly nowadays all I do is resize photos, crop, minor retouching work, post process exposure manipulation, etc. but in the past I have used it extensively to combine images or delete things from images. I know one time my mother asked me if I could take out a person in a picture and I did and ever since then she thinks I am some kind of computer photoshop wizard. haha To me one of the most amazing things about GIMP is I can take a mpeg bust it down into frames, resize those frames to something very small like 200X200, and then convert it into a gif thereby making an avatar size very short movie. The animation stuff and special effects stuff is also useful for banners and the like.

I would love to come to Sweden someday to photograph the women! :)

I'm also a Linux user (Gentoo) and have used GIMP for years. But for serious photo editing I dual boot to Windoze and use Lightroom. I wish there were a Linux-compatible alternative but that'll probably never happen.

Here's a couple of images I doctored in GIMP script-fu.

I just came across this thread. It didn't really last very long, so maybe I will have to revive it.

I'd like to post mine.

But I doubt the innernets has the bandwidth for it.

I'm one of those maroons that use 'useless' GIMP, impossible interface and all. Why? Because it works, and it's free. Now that all the PhotoShop huggers are crying in their milk having to pay a monthly fee for the privilege, I'm merrily chugging along with GIMP 2.6.

I never once have thought, "Gee, it sure would be nice to have PS." I haven't because I just don't need it. There's nothing it can do for me that GIMP cannot do. I have no doubt that if I were ever to sit down and try to edit my work in PS, I'd be complaining about it exactly like PS-lovers complain about GIMP.

I'm using 2.8 and it does what I need. 2.9 is out and is a sort of Beta version to work out the kinks for 2.10 which is supposed to be leaps and bounds better version of GIMP. I am anxiously waiting for it to come.
