ViewNX-i Will not open on W10 after update?

I've been using ViewNX for years on my laptop and within the last month or so Windows did some update that stops it from opening. I get the error
ViewNXi error.jpg a VCRUNTIME error which I looked up and did all kinds of troubleshooting as suggested but can't get ViewNXi to open no matter what I do. I have un-installed both the program and the C++, reboot, reinstalled numerous times but still can not clear this error. Anyone have this issue or any way to get it run once again?

ViewNXi has not been supported by Nikon for a while now. Matter of fact, they will be removing all download links to the most current version on their website at the end of June 2022, as I just read this weekend.

You have discovered a side-effect of that loss of support. Nikon is not updating the software to react to whatever Microsoft feels necessary to change on the operating system. Could even be they dropped support of the software because they were warned about some problem with the runtime file and security, and it had to be scrapped. I don't actually know. But the replacement software is NX Studio which combines the features of multiple products into 1. That includes ViewNXi file organizer.

Hello BF Hammer (or anyone else that might help me),

Is the new NX Studio a good replacement for the older ViewNX? Does it pretty well do a good job in processing your photos? I am still using the old Adobe Photoshop 6 (I refuse to pay Adobe their rent for the newer versions), but I really need to look for something newer! Any suggestions?

I really just use NX Studio to import from SD cards and maybe cull out the bad images. After that I use RawTherapee to process the Raw files and I use GIMP to do what RawTherapee cannot. Typically to add my watermarks or any process that needs layers to do.

I removed ViewNX and installed the latest Studio - got the same error so it must be a Windows thing. Works fine on my other computer with W10, looks like hours of troubleshooting but would have been a quick fix it only.... Thanks anyway

Did you in fact verify that the DLL is ON the computer in the place it is supposed to be? The ViewNX can't find the DLL file. If it doesn't exist where ViewNX is looking for it... no amount of installing uninstalling software is going to fix your issue until the DLL is correctly re-installed... The DLL is a Windows file... NOT a Nikon file...

Never used ViewNX so no help there. I do use NX Studio to process my RAW files and I'm quite happy with it in that role. For culling and sorting, I find that the free program, FastStone Image Viewer, is my favorite. It also allows some basic JPG editing and will even let you view (not edit) RAW files.

Hello Fred, I sent a reply but it doesn't seem like it was posted so I will give you the short version. No the DLL was not on the problem computer, even though I had re-installed the Virtual C++. I copied and pasted the DLL from my working computer and now Studio is working. Thanks so much for the tip, basic troubleshooting but my skill have gotten rusty and you gave me just what was needed to solve this easily.

@Sempusa I'm glad you got it working... Some of today's virus and malware software is rather crude in what it thinks may be a problem and promptly removes important files when it thinks certain activities are suspicious... As well as many installation/update processes that remove things during updates, then fail to put back all the necessary pieces... Glad you got it sorted...
