Hi, I have a D7500 and I want to attach it to my macbook via an HDMI cable so that I can use the mac's monitor. I guess I can simply mirror what the D7500 is seeing but I'd like an app so I can use the mac to control the camera settings. Is there an app (preferably free!) that I can use?

I don't know of any that would allow a Mac or PC to control the camera although there might be something out there. The only two apps I know of are SnapBridge or Nikon Mobile Wireless Utility. Both should allow a SmartPhone to access info from the camera. SnapBridge is for the newer bodies and requires Wifi from your camera to work.

What you want to do is called "tethering". And you could try Mac Tethered from SofortBild but I don't know that the D7500 is supported.

It will not help with a Mac, but for Windows DigiCamControl is good. It can work wired by USB and it supports the Wi-Fi connection for bodies that have that. I have used it wired with my D7000 and wireless with my D750.

There is a free demo version that does a lot, but you buy the program for the full feature set. I have not used the paid version yet.
