    Online Storage

I'm looking into some type of online storage for my photos and was all set to go with Back Blaze until I read one thing.

What Happens If I Delete A File From My Computer?

Files that are deleted or removed from the system backing up are retained in the Backblaze backup for 30 days, for the purposes of recovery. After 30 days, those files are deleted from the Backblaze backup as well.
My whole point of an online storage is the option of storing files that I want to delete from my computer. I realize Back Blaze is a backup of a computer, but what options exist for online storage? I was under the assumption that Back Blaze did both the backup as well as storage, but apparently not.

I do use several WD portable hard drives but want to supplement with online storage. Any suggestions on cloud storage besides my free Dropbox account? I know they also offer a paid account but don't know if there are any better options out there.

    Re: Online Storage

Yeah, that is my biggest gripe against Backblaze.

I have a setup where files get mirrored/copied across drives so that I have it in at least three places (two external drives as well as my NAS), which the NAS and primary external drive being backed up to off-site systems. When Crashplan got out of the consumer business, I started switching everything to Backblaze, but as a short term stop-gap I kept my primary computer on Crashplan Small Business so that the external drive is backed up and stored longer. I use Backblaze B2 for backing up the NAS, but it may have the same 30-day limitation as the other service ... so I haven't completely committed to them yet.

    Thanks, Charlie.

Dropbox is $20 per month for unlimited storage. Other companies have limitations on the total storage amount. If I can't find any unlimited online storage for a decent price, then I'm going to have to settle for the multiple portable hard drives like I am already using. *sigh*

I'm using Google Backup and Sync. Pay monthly $3 for 202 gb storage. Or $30/year.
Options on storing/ignoring .nef's or other file extensions you specify.
This is an enhanced version of the old Google Drive merged with Google Photos. All the sharing options are easy to use.

They finally got the bugs out of it and it works good and you can control what gets deleted where when you hit 'delete'

I still use local networked and usb hard drives too, but the good stuff gets the cloud storage as well.
