NX-D How to save corrected image

Nikon can not make anything easy and I'll never understand why. I was told by their support to go to NX-D when NX would no longer save an image in Windows 10. I didn't think I would need to plow through their manuals endless features just to do a simple save on a correct image but even search came up empty. They don't seem to believe in following the most common Window rules where SAVE and SAVE AS are located under FILE - I thought that a must do. So I have to ask where, oh where has Nikon put SAVE, so I can store my lovely corrected image to disk? Really can't believe I'm asking but Nikon is a mystery I have grown to dislike more and more.

Maybe I'm not understanding your problem, I use ViewNX-i and it saves it to the same folder.

Edit: I think I know what you're asking now - in ViewNX-i, the save is in the bottom right corner. Click on the disk.

Look under the "Adjust" menu for the option, "Save All Adjustments", or you can use Ctrl+Shift+S.

Thanks Marilynne but I am asking about Capture NX-D software, not NX-View which has limited correction functions and is more for viewing images. @HFish, 'save all adjustments' I also thought it would be a good place to hide the standard SAVE function. Unfortunately, when I try that all I get is the option to save a '.nxd' file which 1. As a .nxd, it is totally useless to anyone else trying to open it to look at or use, and 2. according to the manual all that is being saved is the adjustment and not the image adjusted so again it is of little use. I'd like to save a corrected jpeg but I'm beginning to think it is impossible with NX.

Sorry, it's been a while since I used NX-D.

To save RAW (NEF/NRW) images in JPG or TIFF format, click the "Convert" button on the toolbar (see image below), use the "Convert Files" option in the "Fle" menu or press Ctrl+E on your keyboard.

So the short answer is NO you can not save a file in NX-D!! Great stuff. But okay, you can have to convert the image. I had also tried this twice but the file never show in the destination folder, so I thought I must be doing something wrong and there had to be an easier way. I just tried it again, took over a minute to convert one NEF from my d7100 and once again it didn't show up in the destination folder or any place I can find it with Search. Just incredible software, I truly have never seen anything like it.

To save the changes, just choose File(F) > Convert Files, or by right-clicking on the image you're looking at, and choose Convert File(s).

You can then rename the image if you wish, and save it as a JPEG or TIFF. You can also change the file directory as well.

Well you can't save a raw file, no. All raw files need to be converted to an image file format, such as .JPG, .TIFF, .PNG or some other format, in order to be saved.

This isn't a problem with the software you're using, this is just how it is working with raw files: You open them in your converter, work them up and then save them as image files. NX-D calls it "converting", which is unusual terminology generally speaking, but it's not inaccurate.

I just ran a quick test and was able to open and "convert" a .NEF to a .JPG and save it to the Desktop without issue.

If you edit an image, then close the app, the edits are saved. When you reopen the app, the edits are reapplied. The edits aren't transferable, but you can reopen NX-D and view your edited image, then Convert to a JPEG or TIF.

You have to understand what NX-D does and why.
1. NX-D applies all the corrections and effects that you want on the image. Each step is a function. If you apply 10 different steps - colour, level, shadow, noise etc then NX-D will apply them in the order you did.

2. Each step/function has its code and parameters associated with it. These are stored in a file in the order you have used/applied them.

3. In order to be non-destructive, all the steps/functions are stored in a "Sidecar" file. Each time you open NX-D and refer to the file, these steps are applied in real time and you get the final "Corrected" image. So you never "inadvertently" damage the original file, which is always available in its original form for editing by any program.

Now to answer your query
. Corrected image is always available in NX-D as it is.
. You have to "Export" the image if you want the corrected image in any other format. The most popular are JPG, TIFF8 and TIFF16. The last format will have the full dynamic range of the image.

I think I know what you're talking about: if you're using Win 10, and NX-2. You save the file in NX-2, but when you look at it in Win 10, using its file folder view, it doesn't look like the photo has been modified. This wasn't a problem in earlier version of windows, but it is surfacing now. It's as if Win 10 doesn't recognize any of the file modifications made in NX-2...

I am also looking for a solution for this situation...

NX-D does not "change" the original file. Non-destructive RAW editors do not save the changes to a RAW file. It saves the changes in a separate file with a different extension.

If you want to save changes to a RAW file, you need to EXPORT the RAW file with changes to a different file format. An example would be Jpeg
