Tethering Joy!! :: Control My Nikon ::

After trying a few different, free and/or open source tethering applications both wireless and wired, (e.g. Digicam Control, DSLR Controller) and getting more and more frustrated, I finally ponied up and bought a copy of Control My Nikon and I couldn't be happier. Wireless transfer is not an option for me because it's just too damn slow; a wired connection is far, far faster and I don't mind using a 15' cable for this.

So, yeah... If you're looking for decent, well supported, easy-to-use tethering software, I'm loving Control My Nikon.

Control My Nikon is for Windows only and requires Windows 7, 8 or 10.

Just FYI, ON1 Raw 2018 has a tethering option. I haven't tried it yet, but I think it might be interesting! I haven't tried anything except the Nikon Phone APP (whatever it is called- WMP?)

I am a DigiCam person as well. Would love to read your experience comparison between the two softwares.
Digicam was a big, fat, PITA from the get-go for me. The main problem was failure to launch, literally... That app simply refused to start probably 40 or 50 per cent of the time and the times it chose not too were, of course, the most critical times. Maybe it's because this decrepit laptop of mine is running Win 8.1 or something, I don't know. But Control My Nikon has been a huge relief and rock solid for me for the couple weeks I've been using it. When Digicam DID run it did everything I wanted, but CMN does too and I find I much prefer CMN's interface over Digicam's.

I tried a few also, and ended up with ControlMyNikon and found it very reliable. I don't use it that often but for demo kitchen or product shots it is very effective. The rest of the time I do not use tethering for much handheld portrait or non-studio. If there is a problem with reliability it is probably older OS that is not fully patched. I use it on two laptops both are i7 Intel processors with 16gig of RAM, an HP DV7 6163 and a MSI GP62 running Win 10.1 that are kept up to date. The camera is a D800 with the latest firmware from last month.
Good application at a low price.
For those doing macro or studio product, fashion or any tripod shooting it is a real aid to getting what is intended.
