I have seen a couple things with people talking about a new selection tool coming out in Release 19.1 that just hit recently. I watched this video by Matt Kloskowski that was pretty interesting. Thought it was worth sharing. Selecting things in PS has been one of my biggest struggles and this looks much better.

I'm the first to admit I hate having to make complex selections and think doing so constitutes an art form unto itself... That being said I'm finding this new tool does get the bulk of the job done more quickly, which I'm all for, no doubt. I still have to refine and feather edges which, for me, is the real time-suck.

I have become a fan of Matt K's teaching style too. He goes at a pace I can follow. He also covers enough detail that I get a good understanding of the how's and why's without getting into the weeds for me.

I played around with it yesterday, and it does do a pretty darn good job. As Paul said, though, it still takes time to refine the edges, and that seems to be necessary on the majority of photos I tried it with. Honestly, some things go faster and look just as good on Lightroom with the brush tool than I can do them on Photoshop. I think I'll still only break out Photoshop when I need the power tools. :)

Also agree with Mike, focus select can do just as good a job when the subject is the only thing in focus.
