Photography Phone Apps

What phone apps do you use that help you with photography? They don't need to specifically be photography apps--just ones you use to help you make decisions.

One that @BackdoorHippie mentioned a very long time ago is TrueDoF. Eventually they changed what was available in the free version by taking away some of the important things and put them into a paid version. I wound up buying the paid version so I could wrap my head around the DoF with my 300mm lens coupled with the 1.4 teleconverter.

Sky Guide is a paid app for viewing stars ($2.99). I haven't yet tried it out, but I heard it was good.

All Trails is a free app to identify local trails. Since the northern part of the USA is heading into fall, that means the foliage will be changing soon.

What apps do you in conjunction with photography? Of course photo editing apps are always good suggestions, too. Do you use any for identifying birds? What else is out there?

"Manual - RAW" is a camera app that uses the iPhone camera, lets you make real manual adjustments, and then save the iPhone images as a RAW DNG file. Using it, I have also setup my phone to transmit photos to my Apple icloud account... so I can take manual photos with the iphone, it saves the image as a DNG and transfers it to my icloud account... I can then import the DNG RAW files directly into LR from my iCloud account... <-- I could also edit them directly in LR's Mobile version, but being an old fart, I can't see the small image changes and/or like the LR Mobile app...

I'm REALLY old school. I email my iPhone photos to myself then open the photos on my computer for editing in PCC.

Great thread!

I have way too many apps installed, and browsing through them ... I'm seeing quite a few that I don't actually use all that often.

My gotos:
Lightroom Mobile - for both the raw ability using my iPhone's built in camera, and for culling images when I'm not at my desk
The Photographer's Ephemeris
Nikon Manual Viewer 2

I have a few different DOF apps, but don't really end up using any of them. I also have the CamRanger app installed for when I use that as a remote.

As others I have the Photographer’s Ephemeris Another one that I really like a lot

PhotoPills | Shoot legendary photos

The part really like is
AUGMENTED REALITY-- Get it right! Visualize Sun, Moon and Milky Way position and path

GPS Tracks this is great for loading all the locations for individual photos. You run it on your phone and then transfer the file to your computer and import that file into Lightroom and it will pinpoint each photo's location for that day.

Hmm...haven't heard of The Photographer's Ephemeris, but it looks interesting! Thanks for that. You too, Don Kuykendall - appreciate the info. Charlie, how would the Nikon Manual Viewer 2 differ from putting a PDF manual on my phone? I have an Adobe Reader app installed. With your app, are you able to view all manuals quickly?

Honestly, both methods (the Nikon Manual Viewer) and an Adobe reader both work. I have all my manuals stored on Dropbox too, so as long as my iPhone/iPad has network access, I can load from there. The app just makes it easier for me to find the manuals, and fortunately has both the D810 and D500 manuals and supplemental guides. So for me, it's an easier place to locate the manuals, but if there's something (like my Phottix gear) that isn't in the Nikon app, I'll pull that from Dropbox.

"Photographer's Tools Free" on Android. Gives sunset/sunrise, moonrise/moonset and percentage, golden/blue hours, hyperfocal calculations, depth of field, and a few more. I also have the pay for version, but the free is really all you need.
