    Apple Mice

So I've been an Apple guy since our Mac 512K a zillion years ago, and I've never had any problems with an Apple mouse until the last two. A wireless gave up the ghost after about a year, and now a corded one stopped scrolling correctly after only 6 months. I just went to Walgreens and got a $7 Verbatim and it's working fine. Just venting a bit. A $40 mouse should hold up to regular use for more than 6 months, doncha' think!

Have you tried opening it to clean the sensors and encoder.

An Apple magic mouse came with my iMac in 2010... both the Imac, and the mouse work fine.

yowch, that stinks about the mice. Like Fred I've had a MM for about 5 years now and it performs flawlessly. Maybe recent products have less quality control when leaving the factory. I hope not.

I would have no clue about that. Is it pretty straight forward to do?

I guess I was just unlucky. All of the Apple stuff I've had through the years has been pretty darn reliable.

Sometimes. Various models of mice open in different ways. Screws can be found in the bottom, under the battery cover (wireless), under the glide pads and still other snap together. If it not working it worth a shot any way. This problem is not so prevalent since they went to optical instead of roller ball. The ball would deposit lots of debris inside.

Yeah, I used to take the ball out and get a ton of crud out of the inside of the older style mice.

Looks like the only way to open my currently troubles mouse would be with a nut cracker. I think I settle for the $7 model, which works just fine for what I currently need.

The mouse that came with my iMac crapped out within a year, and you can't charge it and use it at the same time. I bought a cheap USB mouse that works great.
