Transfer photos from camera

I'm currently using Bridge to transfer my photos from the camera. When my Adobe subscription runs out I'm considering going to the standalone version of Lightroom and was wondering what software does everyone use to transfer their photos.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.

More information would be helpful.

Are you using a windows or Mac PC?

Which OS?

USB cable from camera to PC or card reader?

I just use the Windows 10 file program with my PCs builtin card reader.

Welcome to the forum. The stand alone version of Lightroom will transfer your files to the computer and catalog them for you. It is a great way to keep your photos organized

If I were you, I'd buy a card reader... Transferring photos via the card reader is lot easier is a lot easier, and less stressful from a cable connection standpoint and durable. I'd rather sacrifice a $13 card reader than the USB connection on a camera body... You can then use the OS's Explorer or Finder to drag/copy the images to any folder you want...

I agree. card readers are very inexpensive.

I like using a card reader too. I'm not sure if it applies to today's camera, but I remember in the past the camera transfer rate vs the transfer rate of a card reader was much slower. That's what initially got me using a card reader.

If you forget to unplug the cable and leave the camera attached and on, it will drain your battery quickly. I prefer the card reader.

Thanks everyone. Card readers seem to be a popular choice here, any recommendations on which one or are they all basically the same?

They're pretty basic. Amazon has dozens for less than $10... The difference is whether it's just an SD card reader, and/or one that reads multiple formats (different type cards)... and whether it's USB 2.0 or 3.0 compatible... If your computer has USB 3.0 ports, get one that's version 3.0 compatible.

I've used several and I've never really noticed any difference between them. Just make sure it's at least USB 2.0 compatible, or 3.0 if your computer supports it.

The one I'm using now is this little guy from Am-a-zon.

Bought one of these at work. Love it. USB 3.0 - regular SD and Micro. (no CF)
Bought another for home - another for the mini-laptop which didn't have a full size SD reader built in.

Not too costly - just checked Bestbuy.ca - $36 CDN and that is the G4 new version.

Plug card in - transfer to a Temp holding (on an SSD if you have one) process what you want, save the good ones dump the rest.
