LR CC vs LR disk... questions

Is the disc supported?
Do we have to be online to use LR CC or does the program DL to the computer?

If you go CC and go on the monthly payments, can you disable that for a month or three at a time?
Just wondering if there is some kind of pause/vacation mode. We have responsibilities that at times take us away from our hobbies. LOL

LR CC is downloaded to your computer, so you don't have to be connected to us it. However, you do have to be connected periodically so that Adobe can verify your account is in good standing . I'm not aware of any option to pause the payment for any period of I time. I suspect that if you don't make a payment Adobe will consider your account to have been cancelled.

You'll get updates for your version but if a new version comes out that's an upgrade, and you will have to pay to get it. How much any particular upgrade costs would be up to Adobe. The upgrade from Lightroom 4/5 to Lightroom 6 cost $79 if I recall correctly.

The application(s) download onto your computer, you do not need to be online to use them. Creative Cloud needs the connection to install updates and it "phones home" in the background every so often to make sure your subscription is current.

All I can tell you on this front is that you can pre-pay for one full year of CC and save a few bucks over the month-to-month option but I don't know about pausing a month-to-month subscription. I imagine if you simply don't pay the bill, CC will block access to your application(s) until you do; but that's speculation on my part.

In the early days of cc, I think I saw cc photography plans that were truly month to month, cancel anytime. Its possible they may have let you jump in and out, but I'm betting they don't like that. BUT, I don't see this choice anymore. The choices now say 'annual plan, paid monthly' and 'annual plan, prepaid'. I have the annual plan paid monthly.

The 'fine print' on Adobe says this:

If you cancel an annual membership (paid monthly or once a year) within 14 days, you will receive a full refund. Otherwise, you are billed 50 percent of your remaining contract obligation.

If you cancel a month-to-month membership, you have access to your Creative Cloud plan through the end of the billing cycle.

So unless you find a promotional true month to month offer somewhere, you are committing to a full year of service regardless of if you are paying monthly or paid in full.
Deals for the full year pop up on various sites. Right now on the Adobe site pay monthly and pay yearly are the same. $9.99 x 12 or $119.88/yr and either way you are on the hook for 50% of your remaining term if you quit early.

As I understand it, for support, you get hotfixes and security patches but no updates. I think I remember when there was an update to add the Haze Filter and it was only for CC users.

It is not the first and won't be the last time a company has bought out a competitor just to kill off the competition.

Would be nice if there was a requirement that if a company drops support for a software package, they must release the code into the public domain. Then perhaps with a popular program, like NIK or Windows XP someone would pickup the support and keep the users happy.
