transferring photo's onto mac

I have a D3300 and I used to be able to plug it into my mac and View NX2 opened automatically and I was able to transfer my photo's onto my mac. Since doing an update on my mac, when I now plug my camera into my mac, my camera isn't shown in the source on View NX2 and I can only transfer my photo's using the 'Photos' app. Any suggestions as to how I can transfer my photo's using a programme rather than the app?

Agree with Fred but go to iphoto preferences and look for the connecting camera opens..... select NX2 and you're good to go.

I stopped a long time ago transferring images from the camera and have used a card reader. Especially with the D500 I was really apprehensive using their USB cable for fear of breaking the usb port in the camera (big buck$) I finally ordered a Sony MWE 90 card reader.
Now if you are familiar with command line in terminal.app you could do this:
defaults -currentHost write com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug -bool true
This will stop photos.app from coming up and you have the choice of installing your images how ever you want. To revert back remove the last part of the line -bool true.Lou Cioccio
