for $20 i would give it a try if i needed it. i would check on their return policy for "deal of the day". if you have had your router for some time an replacement might be in order, call or chat with customer service.

B&H has a network extender as their deal of the day today, but since I don't know anything about them, can anyone tell me if this one is decent? I need better reception upstairs which is the furthest location from my router. Or are there other features available in other network extenders that would work better?

I was able to find the exact same item on Amazon where it gets pretty mediocre reviews at best:

Actiontec Wireless Extender

By way of comparison, this extender does the same thing, costs the same, and has thousands of excellent reviews:

TP Link WiFi Extender

Thanks, Paul. I had read a few of the reviews on Amazon--some weren't good because of their tech support although they said the device was good. However, I really don't know enough to tell what features make them better than others. The one I linked comes with an adapter that connects to the router but not sure if that is really necessary.

If all you need is something to boost the WiFi signal in you home either one will do that. If you need it to do more than that, let us know.

Thanks. But now you've piqued my interest! ;) So what else can you get from these types of devices? Maybe it would help narrow down my choices if I know more about their capabilities.

You don't want that deal Cindy... It uses your homes electrical circuits as the wire. It is NOT a wireless device. Problem is, it needs to be on the same circuit out of your electrical panel. Probably not the case between two ends of a house's electrical circuits. Second is, you'd need to cable into the other end... it isn't a Wifi device... it requires a hard cable... It's the deal of the day because it's old technology...

Thanks for that info, Fred. Are there any you can suggest?

The Actiontec is for both wired and wireless access. It uses electrical lines to create a wired network, and for that you'd need Ethernet cables. But it also works as a wireless "N" access-point through a built-in network extender.

It would do what Cindy wants, but I think there are better options.

Can you suggest something? I have no clue what features I'm looking for. Just want to be able to access my internet while I'm upstairs.

One thing I have heard about WIFI extenders is that they tend to work better and be more reliable if you use the same brand extender as the brand of your router. While I have never personally tested this, it does make some sense.

I wasn't sure whether you simply picked one similar to what I posted or one that you really liked because of its features. ;) Thanks again, Paul.
Ah! Roger that...

Based on your post's, sounds to me like all you need a basic network extender and the ones Fred and I suggested will serve that purpose just fine. The one you found listed at B&H would work for you as well, but it has more bells and whistles than you need and gets reviews that are less than stellar.

I recommend you go with one of the other two suggested here.

It's been almost one-and-a-half years since I asked about a wireless network extender. Today B&H has this one on a one-day sale. It's for a dual-band router which is what I have so I decided to get it. My bedroom upstairs is on the opposite end of the house, and sometimes the signal simply isn't strong enough for cell phone wifi.

Not a bad looking unit! How's it working out?

I haven't yet tried it but need to do so before my 30 days is up. My trigger thumb is really bad, and I'm in the process of switching to a different family doctor. Can't get anything done until I get a referral.

It's really put a damper on shooting BBF. Using my thumb to focus is so painful as is using the rear scroll wheel. Need to get the extender set up though. I'll let you know how it works once I do. ;)
