New photoshop

One thing on my "to do list" is to use photoshop more,

I do 75% of editing with lightroom, 20% in Nik Collections and about 5% if needed using the clone tool in photoshop.

Early this morning I saw Scott Kelby's post on Facebook before they sent out an email on it. When I tried to update PCC, I found out I needed to update my Creative Cloud first. Then I updated PCC (haven't yet opened it). Once PCC was done, I opted to update Bridge since I use that instead of LR. What surprised me is while Bridge was updating, there was a notice that Camera RAW CC was up to date. First time I've ever heard of it being referred to as Camera RAW CC.

The new features look really interesting--especially the Select and Mask feature and the Liquify for Portrait Retouching. Those are things I can make use of right away. ;)

Just watched a video on the new selection and mask tools. Looks very interesting. I'm updating PS as we speak, but if I start playing with it now, I'll never get any sleep tonight.

One thing I hadn't noticed after the update is that the NIK Collection was no longer a PCC plug in. I had to reinstall the NIK Collection which went smoothly so now it's back in PCC. Many thanks to a forum member who alerted me to this problem. Just make sure you check all your plug ins if you have more than just the NIK Collection, Pete.

One of the features I wanted is how the Liquify tool can do facial recognition and will automatically apply some of the changes simply by moving sliders. However, in order for it to work, the graphics processor needs to be enabled as well as enabling another setting. Here is what is listed on Adobe's web site. Once I followed the instructions, it worked. I had a lot of fun making people's mouths open and close. ;)

Prerequisite: Enable the graphics processor
As a prerequisite to using Face-aware Liquify functionality, ensure that the graphics processor is enabled in your Photoshop preferences.

Choose Edit > Preferences > Performance.
In the Graphics Processor Settings area, select Use Graphics Processor.
Click Advanced Settings. Ensure that Use Graphics Processor To Accelerate Computation is selected.
Click OK.

The info above comes from this link:

It was pretty entertaining watching Scott Kelby play with the tool. :beguiled:

Just watched that video, and I'm impressed. Just updating Photoshop now so I can test it out.

I used this feature today. On Sunday I took 4 photos of a family who had a baby baptized. In one photo, a woman wasn't ready for the photo, and there wasn't any way to keep her face. So I copied her face from another photo using the Select and Mask feature (works nicely!) and pasted it into the image. After cleaning up some of the lines and flattening the image, I applied the Liquify tool to make her smile a little different than it was in the photo I took it from. Works great and was able to make use of the image! :encouragement: Then I went through and slightly adjusted the smiles of some of the other people since the two photos were nearly identical. Very easy to do.

There are several threads on Adobe forums claiming that new Photoshop partially breaks NIK collection. This is a big deal for me, as I use NIK tools every day. I cannot imagine processing my photos without NIK tools.

On person claims that Analogue Efex and Sharpener stopped working entirely. There are a few independent claims that in Color Efex (and perhaps other tools) applying brush is not functional anymore.

This was my worry since Google made NIK free. They abandoned it and NIK will gradually become non-functional with new versions of Photoshop.

I'm very disappointed. I will have to stay with the previous version of Photoshop forever. And I have to pay Adobe for this every month.

I had problems with nik collections and the new photoshop,
After updating Photoshop, the nik collections plugins disappeared, to cut a along story short and a few day of headache's, I copied the nik collections folder into the adobe cc 2015.5 plugin folder and all working again.

I thinks this happens after each Photoshop update.

Can you check if applying brush in NIK works? Does Analog Efex work?

Yes, Analog Efex does work ok, not sure how to test the "applying brush" as I've never used it, so not sure where it is,

I only use HDR and Dfine.

You can prepare filters in Color Efex (and other tools) and then apply them selectively using this brush:

The reports I read say it doesn't work.

FYI, if you haven't installed yet, save yourselves a bunch of time and copy your Plug-ins folder from the old version to somewhere else, install, and then copy the contents of the folder to the new location. Nik is the only one I had to reinstall - Topaz, On1, DxOMark, ... they all work fine.

Very good idea,

I even tried a system restore, to put Photoshop back to the old version, but the new version must over write files/delete old files and you can not go back.

What is supposed to happen when applying a brush in Color Efex? Mine closed out, too, and took me back to PCC, but there was a dialogue box with some options that opened. Since I never used Color Efex, I'm not sure how it is supposed to work.

I can't test this myself because I'm at my office and have no access to NIK but here's how the Brush Tool is supposed to work in Color Efex Pro... Maybe people aren't understanding how it's supposed to be used? I really hope this is the case because being able to use Brushes is huge for me.
