Lens info has disappeared!

Hi All!
At some point at the back-end of March (26th - 31st), my lens info appears to have stopped being recorded in the EXIF info of my shots. It no longer appears in the Loupe info in Lightroom, or when images are posted up in Flickr - It records the focal length of the shot, but not what lens was used for the shot. I haven't made any changes to the camera, and the only changes made in Lightroom were the Adobe updates.

I have checked in Lightroom that the correct lens correction profile is being applied and it is, it just seems to be dropping the info from the metadata.... Any ideas where to start looking to resolve this?

Cheers,
Steve

It seems obvious to me that at this point, you should try to determine whether the camera itself is no longer recording these data, or whether these data are being stripped out later by software that you're using to transfer and process these images.

How are the images being transferred to your computer? Are you hooking the camera to the computer via a USB cable, or are you removing the memory car, and using a card reader on your computer to read it?

I think what you need to to is to take a picture, remove the card from the camera, put it in a card reader, and examine the image on the card using any utility that will display all the EXIF data. If you see the missing data, then you know the camera is still recording them, and that they are being discarded somewhere later in the process.

Thanks Bob, and good thinking! I transfer files by taking out the memory card and copying the files across - Looking at the last shots copied (I'm at work without the camera atm) the file info only shows focal length, not the lens make & model! I didn't think this was something that could be changed in a setting, so have I got a dirty contact maybe in the lens mounting? (The info not being recorded affects all lenses)

Mine is doing the same. Lens info does not show here, nor on Flickr.

The camera is recording it fine. I can see lens model/info in View NX2 right off the card. I can also see Lens info/model after the RAW file has been imported to LR in View NX2

The lens model/info disappears in View NX2 after it has been processed/converted to jpeg in LR.

NOW! In LR, lens model does not show right off the bat. Only focal length. My thinking, without doing any further investigations is, that the camera records lens info, it retains this information during transfer to HD, and loses it when LR gets it's hands on it.

Strange that it has just started though - Looking back through my .NEF's, the info was never recorded in the file details tab of windows but suddenly (For me, between 29th & 31st March) it stopped showing in the loupe of LR. Like I say, the lens profile is applied correctly, so the info must be there it just seem LR is no longer handling it properly. I'm going to see when I last installed an update to LR!

So LightRoom was updated on the 30th.... Info showed on 29th... LR Updated 30th... New shots imported 31st and info not showing.... Now I'm not one to point the finger, but...

Strange though that the lens make & model fields have never been populated when viewing file details in Windows. The Camera details are there, including serial number, exposure details all there but not the lens info.

This wouldn't be the first time LR messed up the EXIF. Remember awhile back they had a problem showing camera model info?

I remember it well1 I guess we now have to just sit and wait for an update - It's no biggie for me although I hope it picks the info up retrospectively once its fixed!
