View NX2 has stopped working. Best options?

Ok I got a View NX 2 has stopped working message today and after some research discovered it is no longer being supported (I'm not a techie person). Anyway what options should I consider at this point and why?
Install View NX-i (does installing it automatically replace View NX 2) or does the latter have to be un-installed at some point?
Install View NX-i and Capture NX-D combination?
Consider another editing program?

I've been shooting all Raw and doing basic editing in View NX 2. I do general photography; people, events, outdoor, etc.

Thanks,

I never had NX 2, but I have and use View NX-i and Capture NX-D. The View NX-i I use to transfer from the SD card to computer and then do my RAW processing with NX-D It works pretty well for basic Raw processing. I think from what you posted here, it will work just fine for you.

If you want Nikon software, that is NX-D now.

NX2 was developed by NIX Software, which was bought by Google, and Google is not continuing to support NX2. So NX-D is that new effort. It is free so far.

Just uninstall the NX-2 and install NXi and NX-D. I install NXi as it installs all the codecs and Movie Editor. NX-D for RAW processing.

View NX-2: Will have to look into the possibility of trying to reload View NX-2.
NXi & NX-D: It appears from some research of other posts that it is designed for use with Nikon lenses only.

Right now I'm thinking about trying a trial of Corel Paintshop Pro X8 Ultimate.

That would be incorrect.

It might be that they can only correct for the optical flaws (distortion, vignetting, fisheye etc) of Nikon lenses, but all other editing functions will operate properly.

I hope I'm not crashing in on someone else's post.
I'm a new D5300 user using RAW. As a newbie I need software that gives me all my camera settings so the Nikon software seems best for that. I looked at ACR but that only gives minimal info. My problem is that NX2 crashes. I've installed both NX-i & NX-D but they don't display correctly on my laptop / ultrabook. The reason is that the computer has a resolution of 3200 x 1800 which is great for viewing but makes incompatible software fonts too small to read. I've made other adjustments suggested by Microsoft but without success. It's a common problem.
Has anyone got any suggestions either to resolve my display or suggest some non Nikon software that gives all of my camera settings. Thanks

Welcome!

Hopefully some one will come along shortly that may be able to help. I don't shoot RAW and use ViewNX2 all the time on my PC without any problems. Have you downloaded the latest version from Nikon?

Could you explain more precisely what you mean by, "all of my camera settings"? I'm not following you...

I have a three monitor setup. I opened View NX-i and expanded it to two monitors and the display is 3840x1200 and it does not crash. Neither does NX-D which I use extensively.

If both the software crash regularly, then you have a driver incompatibility problem.
1. Try setting the screen to HD resolution - 1920x1200(1080) and then see if it crashes.
2. Check whether the versions for DirectX and Open GL are current. Update them if required.

Thanks for your reply.
I think the aperture size, ISO, and Shutter speed are probably seen on all software. At the moment I am experimenting with lots of settings and like to look back on how I set up the camera on each picture. So I would like to see Focal length, Focus Mode, Exposure Comp, AF area mode, WB presets, Metering, HDR, preset scenes and effects, picture control etc. To my knowledge this additional data isn't available on Adobe ACR, so I am wondering if it is ONLY available when using Nikon software.

Full meta-data (including EXIF and IPTC) is available using Adobe Bridge... Which integrates with Adobe Camera Raw, which integrates with Photoshop.

UPDATE: Shortly after my original posting, the program went back to working fine so I decided to leave well-enough alone. Then last week, it started acting up again. I could on do a limited amount of raw editing before having to close the program and re-open it. This morning, when I loaded raw photos from the card, the photos would display fine as along the bottom of the screen but when I selected a photo, it would only display properly in the editing window for about 1 second and then turn into a pixelated image of blacks, reds, some blues, and some greens. Same issue for jpeg. Also happens if I open up an older photo. Apparently it's time to get serious about changing programs. Luckily I shoot raw to card 1 and jpeg to card 2.

I stated getting intermittent problems with the latest version. The program would stop exporting files after 20 or 30 were. Traced it to memory requirement in the latest version. When it started my memory was down to 4GB from 8GB. Once I got the memory on line the export works fine upto 100 files or so. After that there is a queue but no output till the program is restarted.

I guess that in every version they have added new features without a thought to memory management (particularly to memory leak problems when coding with C++) so as you keep processing files the software stops working till restarted - definitely memory management problem in code.

Otherwise the software is all that I need, and now includes basic geometric correction also.
