Monitor Calibration (Datacolor) Concern

I have been using a Datacolor Spyder 4 Pro to handle monitor calibration for the past 3 years. My monitor is a ViewSonic VP2365-LED (IPS panel) and is working as well as the day I bought it.

My last few calibrations have been, to my eye, a little "off". I realize now that the software has been applying a fairly strong, green tint. Thinking that the recessed incandescent light above my desk might be "throwing" the Spyder, I decided to run another calibration but, this time, in the dark.

The results are considerably more pleasing, although there still seems to be a hint of green applied.

Have other Datacolor users experienced anything similar? Is the overhead lighting likely causing issues?

I use mine in the dark for calibrating, but I will tell you my View Sonic gives me more fits than my Dell. There is a slight color difference and never noticed till I started ch caking the pics on my iPad. So I added the dell, not saying you should, just sharing my experiences with the view sonic. I needed the second monitor anyway.

I can get them real close, but skin tones are always slightly off. What version of the software are you running and have you updated it yet. I went to the higher pro or elite version, whichever is higher and gained more controls. That was a while ago, but it does allow more control and I believe their site list those differences, like studio sync and such for syncing a dual monitor setup.

My view sonic is not IPS and its older. Not on my computer but will try to get the details tomorrow if you want.

The feature that I wanted was Spyder Tune and to get that you have upgrade to the Elite version. Not sure that version is still available for 4 anymore, but it doesn't hurt to check.

Thanks for the quick reply, Kevin.

I have been fortunate with my ViewSonic. I got it for a really good price and I haven't had a single issue in the time I've owned it.

I am using the most current 4 Pro software (version 4.5.4). Do you know if there is a cost to download the Elite software? It is presently listed under Spyder 4 downloads on the Datacolor website.

Have you tried resetting the monitor's settings? (I had a tint show after tweaking monitor settings for calibration)
Perhaps the monitor is showing its age, Have you tried doing a recalibration?

Not sure, I see it listed as discontinued but no way to add to cart. I did look in the knowledge base and it appears you can download the 4.5.4 Elite version. Kind of strange they way its listed, almost like you can get it for free. I was thinking I had to buy a license or something, sorry its been a while. You might see what you can find out on this page, wasnt sure if you are Mac or Win so this link will show both versions.

My monitor is a VX2739wm, which I believe is a TN display and not IPS. But the Elite software gave me more control.

I would start with a complete reset and lights out, then recalibrate and see if that changes.

My ViewSonic is great and got it for a great price, but as far as editing I really like what the Dell provides but thats because it is an IPS. You should be able to tweak things to get it corrected, but it may take trial and error.

Hey Ryan,

I reset the monitor to factory setting then ran another calibration in the dark and the results are much better.

Thanks to all of you for your replies. :)

It looks like calibration in the dark is clearly the way to go.

I am going to contact Datacolor tomorrow to see if I can somehow upgrade to the 4 Elite software to gain a little more control over the calibration results.
