Shoot jpeg but wanting to shoot raw.
Looking at the MacbookPro 15-inch 2.5hz intel i-7
512GB of flash
16GB of DDRL SDRAM
AMD R9 M370X graphic
with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.
Would this be enough to do raw files ?
Thanks

A PC couple years old.

My next question is why do you want to go from PC to Mac? :)

I am a Surface Pro user and its more than adequate for use of lightroom and photoshop ( I could even do video editing on it), why do you think you need a Mac?

Sorry playing devils advocate :D

I have 2 Mac Pro's, one desktop and one laptop. Both are 5 years plus and work just fine with Raw files and LR/photoshop. The one you listed will work with no issues. The Pro models are a little more expensive but for longevity it's worth it. I have only added memory and plan to add SSD to both. The desktop runs 16 and the laptop runs 8 gig of memory.

Good luck in your decision Donald

That's the same as mine if it has a Retina screen. I do everything with this Mac and more often than not, several things at once so you'll have no problems. I do however use a WD external drive to store all photo-data. The screen size is getting used to but you can get an external monitor and use a dual screen set-up.

That system will more than work. I use an i7 500GB MacBook Air and am very pleased. Depending on the size of your image catalog, 500GB may not be large enough. (You probably wouldn't want to travel with your entire catalog anyway.) Take a look at this thread to see how I create a travel Lightroom directory and merge to a consolidated one when I return. If you don't have a secondary system, you could use one (or more) large external drives for your consolidated catalog.

My travel laptop is a MacBook Pro Retina very similar to this
15", late-2013 model
2.3GHz Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048MB graphics
512GB solid state drive

It's been very dependable for me.

I work with uncompressed D810 RAWs which are about 75Mb each and it handles them fine. Compared to those, my D750 and D7200 RAWs are processed at light speed.

Thanks for the help. I'll probably go with the mac. Best Buy has it for 2,200.00

You might want to check to see if a refurbished model is available at apple.com. I always buy mine that way and then add AppleCare. It often is cheaper and you wind up with a 3 year "bumper-to-bumper" warranty as well.
