Display Monitor LCD TV

Ran into a little problem and wondering if anyone has knowledge of this issue. I have been using a 42" LCD television as a computer monitor. The computer has a video card with hdmi out (invidia gforce). Along with the Sony bluray player, the computer out goes into a Home Entertainment Receiver, will call that unit HER. HER was an Onkyo that died. The new HER is a Sony. After doing the swap, the video from the computer looks worse than turd. Difficult to read much of the text and the color-contrast is way off the charts. The bluray and tv look fine.

After pouring through many google results regarding this issue, I have yet to get this issue resolved. The audio is fine and the other components are good for video. Since the previous HER unit did well, it must be with the video card and HER unit handshake, yes?

What I have done: Tried each and every screen resolution, resizing text and icons, adjusting television brightness-color-contrast (disaster for the other components) and going thru the envidia control panel.

Samsung tv, home brew computer and Sony HER unit.

If you connect the computer to the TV (by HDMI cable) is the picture ok.

I use a 24" tv for a computer monitor, I connected the computer to the TV by HDMI I did not like the picture,

So I connected the computer to the TV using the DVI output of the PC, into HDMI of the TV, and for some odd reason the picture is a lot better.

@paul04 No, the picture is still crappy at this time through the hdmi. Does DVI include audio? Don't know if I could stand the silence as I enjoy the tunes while on the puter, web radio has all the variety in the world. Thinking on that option now if it only requires an additional audio cable to the AV receiver. Don't even know if the AV receiver will take audio in separately.

Does the Sony AVR have adjustments g oe each HDMI input? Have you tried another cable? I had an issue with my NAD AVR not liking a SACD/DVD player, and it came down to the cable.

Will swap cable and see. Don't know about individual adjustments to each hdmi slot. The television does different settings per hdmi slot.
