Has it happened after you installed an updated version, or did it just stop starting?

The question is a bit ambiguous. It can be any one of the following
. You start NX-D from a desktop ICON, nothing happens.
. You start NX-D from a desktop ICON, the disk activity light blinks for some seconds and then nothing.
. You start NX-D from start menu, nothing happens.

This used to happen when I reinstalled Win 7. The work around was to set the program to run as administrator. Do the following to check
. Start the Windows Task Manager
. Switch to Processes Tab
. Press "Show processes from all users"
. Start NX-D
. CaptureNX-D.exe should show in the list.

If it stays there and the program window does not open, then it is searching for some module. If it exits, then again it has either not got permission to run, or it tried to access some thing on the net and did not find it. In either case, just delete the program and then reinstall it.

Uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it works now. Not sure why it stopped working but it's fine now. Oh well. Lol

Nikon Capture NX-D version 1.4.x does not work in win7! resolve it by yourself~

Capture NX-D sometimes appear to have "Capture NX-D has stopped working. There has been a problem that caused the program to stop working. Please close the program."
The same problem occurs with rebooting, uninstalling, and reinstalling!
On this issue, Nikon's official website does not have any information!
Resolve it by yourself!

1. Where is the initial judgment?
(1) the problem is in the start-up phase of Capture NX-D(CNXD), which is the "initialization" phase, is not the fault of the core algorithm.
(2) CNXD handed over program error handling to Windows 7's Error Reporting Service (WER).
(3) Windows 7's "Error Reporting Service (WER)" has become more and more serious, and starts WerFault.exe to report errors to users.
(4) The reason for the error reported by Wiondows is obscure and it cannot be located at all.

2. How to locate where CNXD is wrong?
(1) Using the tool software "ProcessMonitor"
(2) Track CNXD startup process
(3) Positioning error

3. Tracking results of CNXD startup process and its disposal
(1) Calling "Nikon Message center" with initialization
(2) Calling Error Report Service (WER) to Report Error
(3) "Nikon Message Center" will create several important initialization files!

The first one:

Is there a directory C:\Users\Administrator.WIN7 (your computer name, the same below) \Pictures exsist?
If not, CNXD will try to create! >>> Creation sometimes fails! (My situation is this!)
! ! ! Create one by yourself! ! !

Second:

Is there a file C:\Users\Administrator.WIN7\AppData\Local\Nikon\CaptureNX-D\Settings.ini exsist?
If not, CNXD will try to create! >>> Creation sometimes fails! (My situation is this!)
! ! ! Create one yourself (empty file)! ! !

Third:

Is there a directory C:\Users\Administrator.WIN7\AppData\Local\Temp\Nikon\CaptureNX-D\VMFolder exsist?
If not, CNXD will try to create! >>> Creation sometimes fails! (My situation is this!)
! ! ! Create one yourself (empty directory)!

4. Disposal result
After creating the above three files (dirs), start Capture NX-D again, OK! Normally started and worked.

5. Inspiration
(1) Capture NX-D are constantly upgrading, focusing on NEF support for some new cameras... and so on.
(2) Perhaps Nikon is very strict! Handle the error report to Windows WER service.
(3) The WER error report is very broad and not targeted!
(4) Nikon should strengthen the error reporting mechanism in the next upgrade version! Especially during the above initialization process
"The file must be created by your software(CNXD) , but you cannot!" At this point, a window should pop up to tell the user where the problem is!
(5) The above questions are handed to the "photographer" to handle, It is too hard for them! Or did Nikon solve this?
