Are you running a color profile tool? On the other PC I have Adobe Gamma and when I set the wrong profile, it can have a coloured tint. While adjusting my monitors yesterday, at one point I had this tint too.

Or what is possible too, since I see you use RT; did you check its color management in the settings? If it only occurs when editing in RT, you might need to change something there.

hi there,

it depends what pograms you are using.

First of all I have had repeated problems with NEMO as the default file explorer. I have had much more success with NAUTILUS.

Open a terminal
sudo apt-get install libopenraw1 libopenrawgnome1 gnome-raw-thumbnailer nautilus

restart.
Open terminal

type nautilus and navigate to the folder where you images are located. YOu should see the thumbnails.

For raw image processing I can highly recommend darktable.

let me know how you get on.

A BIG SORRY!
misread the post and realised that not seeing thumbnails was not the problem.

I have tried nearly all the raw image processing software for linux out there, incl. raw therapee. In fact, raw therapee was all I used for a while until I discovered darktable. It sound like the issue you are having could be with a white balance preset but I am not sure.

check out darktable under darktable | the photo workflow software , any questions either post or PM

looking at your screenshot of Raw therapee only one of the pictures has the red tint. What did you do to the others to remove the red tint?
how do you set white balance in your camera normally?

also, what version of mint are you using? are the exported jpegs also displaying this red hue? As the problem seems to occur on all programs this suggests that it is nothing to do with the program itself but rather the common files in the OS which the programs call up. You can test this by booting from a live installation cd of mint. The latest version is 17.1.
i cant remember if a program is available by default which opens a raw file, if not install something small like ufraw or something. Open the file and see. If the red hue is gone then it is a case of finding the culprit files........ this could be a good time to upgrade to the current version of mint. ;)

In addition, you can go to the mint forum and start a thread there, I am sure someone will be able to help.

also check that your graphics card driver is up to date! You can check this by going into menu, setting device driver. you will have to enter your password, after which it will automatically search for proprietary device drivers like for the graphics card.

is your OS up to date? I just noticed that you are talking about files from a 3300. It could very well be that this camera is not supported by the OS at the moment because the libraries that handle raw have no profile available for the 3300. I seem to remember a simlar problem last year in december on another forum with a D5300.

If you want, you are welcome to send me one of your raw files (dropbox download link for example) and Id be happy to check it out for you on my system.

Also please let me know what version mint you are using.

Hi.
Ok. So if possible send me one of your nefs for me to try. In addition try the tip with thr live cd. The actual version of mint is 17.1. Could be that the camera profile is available for the 3300 in the newest version.

If the cam is not supported, it is possible the editor will wrongly display the cam's WB used and you get strange colors as a result. I have that in RPP. The D750 is apparently not supported and certain WB options use too much red.

He could try to set WB to auto or cam if it is on auto and check if that solves anything.

did you install darktable from the Mint software centre? If so, then you probably downloaded an old version. The actual version is 1.6. What version do you have? SHould you have downloaded it from the software centre delete the program and go to the darktable website where you have instructions on updating Mint to the repositories which will give you the 1.6 darktable version.

I used to use ufraw to 'convert' RAW files to JPG before I switched to shooting RAW full time and interactively editing them. I frequently had the same issue - a rose colored tint; in fact, I actually went back and reprocessed some wedding pictures a friend took to make them look better.

I think it's something in ufraw that causes it - incorrect white balance being the most likely explanation. I never got into digging around to see what it was.

Darktable doesn't do it, as was mentioned.

on the contrary, according to a previous post the OP is having the problem with Raw Therapee, Darktable, Digikam and UFRAW. I am sure it must be a profile issue where there is no base curve preset for the D3300. I would love to get hold of one of his NEFS to see if I have any problems opening the file.

here a screenshot from my darktable:

good news! The problem I am 99% sure is with your out of date software. You need to get into the habit of NOT installing programs from the pre-installed linux repositories. These versions tend to be old and it can take a year or more for the updates to filter through.

Raw Therapee is a slow moving development machine, it has been a while since their last update. They have recently released version 4.1 which supports the D3300. The actual version of Darktable is 1.6.2.

Update using the repos and instructions on the programer's website and you will be good to go.

Hope to have helped. Please confirm that this solves your problems so the thread can be closed.

Regards
Martin
