I'm not overly impressed, but for the price, I won't complain. ;)

I am the same. I am using it as a plugin for Apple Aperture, for some reason it takes ages to open up when selected, if I didn't already have NIK, I would probably use it, but I prefer what I can do with the NIK tools so far.

I will play with it some more later, will see if my opinion changes.

This made me down load it just in case they ever take NIK away from me for not paying :D

I have the entire suite, and I have to say that at first blush it's not an impressive tool set. That said, it's got some very cool components. I use Dynamic Contrast (a very poorly named filter) a lot for landscapes. It's not so much a contrast tool as a very effective detail enhancer. I really don't like the 5 presets that much, but if you play with the 3 sliders (hghlights, midtones, shadows) and then see how they interact with the preserve sliders at the top (highlights, shadows, skin tones) you can make things pop, or REALLY pop, if you want. I like their texture tool a lot too. Much easier to use that textures in Photoshop.

It helps to have some experience with layer masks, for sure, but at the price I highly suggest snapping it up. Works best as a Photoshop add-on, IMO.

Rereading my post, it seems I sidetracked myself, and when I started by saying that at first blush it's not that impressive, I wanted to conclude by saying that it's actually a really nice suite of filters that requires experience with layer masks to make the most of it. But you can't beat free. There are some nice tutorials on the onOne site as well.

It also works as a plug-in with Lightroom and Elements which is good. I also Use NIK and I would suggest that I prefer the options and power of NIK but I found a couple interesting things in here... Not sure how much I will use it but the price is right!! I did notice the "layers" which can be very powerful so agree with Jake that experience in that will allow you to take advantage of this in a more powerful way.

For those who do not have NIK or other plug-ins, for the price, this is surely worth trying!

Michael, thank you for sharing the link!

Thankyou for the Tip!

Installed and running on WIN7. I did buy a new computer last year, while WIN7 was still being distributed on them. WIN8 came with it on a DVD, I stayed with WIN7.

Not just Layers, Pat, but Layer Masks. The great part of the Nik Collection is the ease in which control points allow you to add and/or subtract the effect of an adjustment to part of the photo. As with Photoshop & Elements, it's an all or nothing adjustment unless you make it to a separate layer and then mask in/out the parts you want. I used to hate masks, but the more I use them the more I am able to control the effect of the adjustment using various opacity values in the mask. I still find Control Points to be infinitely easier, but you gotta work with what they give you. And when you start combining layers, masks and blending methods it gets really interesting.
