RAW button in View NX2

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knows what editing steps take place when you click the "RAW" button in View NX2?

It produces a pretty nice image when the RAW button does it's thing on a raw image...so I'm just curious to know what exact things the RAW button is doing...so I could have the option of duplicating those changes on a RAW image in Capture NX2.

I'm new to photography and would like to know what the difference is in shooting RAW vs. JPEG? Should I be shooting in something in particular for basic photographs/portraits? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here is a great link that goes in to a lot of detail comparing JPEG and RAW. The easiest way to think of it is that JPEG is like a print and RAW is a negative.
