Re: Software Question?

You camera came with a CD that has ViewNX2 on it. It has some pretty good uploading and basic management capabilities. It also does some basic editing. Between the two you have there it should hold you for a while. Get used to what you have before you go spending lots of money.

Re: Software Question?

I agree with Don. When I'm using my Mac, I will upload files with ViewNX, quickly scan through them and delete what is definitely bad. Afterwards, I go through the remaining images more carefully, process any I think may need it. If I need more than just basic cropping, contrast, etc. control, I then go to Photoshop Elements. What software you use will really depend on what type of photos you take and what you are trying to acheive as the final result. The best thing to do is play around with the software tools you have before spending money and getting anything else.

If you have never really used photo editing software much, you may want to start out using ViewNX. It is pretty easy and foolproof to use, and gives good results. Only you will know what works for you. Whatever you choose, don't make it feel like a chore. It has to be fun, or at least, enjoyable.

Good luck and have fun!

Re: Software Question?

I like Lightroom. It's fairly cheap, and a great way to import/manage pictures. Plus the good thing is there are 100000 video tutorials on how to get the most out of it.

Re: Software Question?

Elements has a decent organizer, but I prefer Lightroom. A lot of bang for the buck, and it'll interface with Elements as your editor if you want to go beyond basic corrections. I like Elements (and Photoshop) better for intelligent spot healing in particular, and for black and white conversions (see my blog post if curious why). The rest of my basic edits are done in Lightroom.

Thanks, I think I'll stay with Nikon software until I get a little more knowledge under my belt. I've found out it's more to this photography than point $ shoot:cool:
