Hi I am just trying to learn to edit my raw files and I needa little advice please.
I have downloaded a trial version of Lightroom 4 I also haveAdobe Photoshop Elements 10 and 11
I am trying to get to grips with Lightroom to edit my rawfiles and a few people on this forum have recommended Scott Kelby's Lightroombook.
I might yet buy this book but before I do does anyone knowwhere I can buy a Lightroom training video or a Photoshop Elements video on editingraw files.
I think I would learn from a video better than a book:confused:

If you've used Elements to edit RAW files then Lightroom is VERY similar. It's predominantly just a different layout (top to bottom instead of multiple tabs), plus additional functions, obviously. There are many tutorials on YouTube, some better than others. But heck, all it costs you is time.

Adobe has some good videos too. Just choose your product here Adobe TV and see what they got. You'll have to go to the 'all products' pull down to find the Elements videos.

Yes... there's a paper guide that goes with the DVD... I skimmed the paper guide in 10 minutes... The meat and potatoes is the the DVD...

Hi Mfrankfort thanks for the link to the adobe TV I have had a look and I see most of them are extracts form the Lynda.com training modules, and the link that FredKingston left is for a link to Vide2Brain and that is now owned I think by Lynda.com.

So I believe that the link to Video2Brain is the way for me to go I hope

I highly recommend Colin Smith's video Lightroom 4 for Digital Photographers.

lightroom: Look for tutorials on "library" and "develop". Basic library can be complicated or easy. Develop, almost everyone doing a tutorial has their own way of doing thing, after you see many you will get the idea how things operate. Depending on who you buy your copy of l.r. Thru
you may get a copy of kelby's lightroom 4 crash course.

Just one more question please,

I have tried Adobe Photoshop 10 to edit my NEF files and after I have used Photoshop Elements I see there is a sidecar file with the extension .XMP so I assume that the original file and the .XMP file should always kept together.

But after using Lightroom I don't see this .XMP file so where does lightroom store the ,XMP file please.

Lightroom stores your edits and any metadata changes in it's catalog.
