New "older" guy from lovely Minnesota

Greetings all,

I have always had a deep fondness for photography. While in high school (a long time ago) I bought my first Minolta 35mm camera. I took a year in a pro photographer course but found out that it was a tough business. Since then I have had Mamia 645's for quite some time. I was in the service and stationed in Okinawa when all of my lenses fogged and got a bacteria on them. Ruined.....I lost interest for quite awhile and settled with point and shoots. I have now re-entered the SLR world with a Nikon D90. I always have wanted a Nikon.

It's a interesting conversion for me to the digital age age. I look forward to sharing with you!

Hello "older" guy. I'm also an older guy, but I'm from Atlanta. Welcome to the Nikonites Community. You'll find the people here friendly, spirited, and wiling to help with your questions. If you would take a few moments and put a little more info about the camera equipment you are using in your profile. It makes it easier to understand questions you may have and to give advice. There are a lot of photographers here that can help and as I have found out it's an unending learning curve.

Happy shooting,
Joseph

In case you may not have noticed, I am the smart ass of the group.
Its not my fault. Its genetic. Blame my ancestors.

Welcome to the forum, "older" guy, from a "vintage" woman, and welcome back to photography! How sad about your lenses. Glad you picked up a Nikon, though. Great products and you'll love the D90. Looking forward to seeing your photos, and maybe some of your time overseas.

Best Regards

LOL...Pete....you kill me! :) And yes, you are the unofficial group smartass! ;) Keep it up. :)

ps: I'm one of the "older" guys, too. Apparently, I've been told I look rather good for my age. ;) (63)

Thanks for welcome everyone.
Pete - Do I have to sign the disclaimer? LOL
Is "old" strictly chronological. Why yes it is! I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up!!

Welcome from another middle aged guy. What branch of the military were you in? AF guy here. I also got out of photography and now back in with the D90. Beware of NAS (Nikon acquisition syndrome). Once you start with this stuff you just start buying lol.
Enjoy,
Mark

Ummm, make that two AF guys here. Welcome to the site!

I took the liberty of inserting a trade mark symbol for you on that one Mark. I wonder if my better half will accept the diagnosis?

Guessing from your moniker, you might be able to complete this sentence: "If you ain't Skivvy Nine. . . "

"IYASNYAS" I am not Skivvy Nine but I can answer the sentence! I did spend some time in Korea and had a drink or two with some of them. I actually was a crew chief on the F-15's at the time. Spent quite a bit of time on alert at Osan AFB protecting the 38th parallel.

The eyespyed is confusing but it's what popped in my head at the time. It is more towards the nature photography I really enjoy. Each time I go out I have high hopes of spying a elusive subject.

Small world. I was there in '83 - '84. Interesting place but also where I got started in photography. They had a great rec center and darkroom. I found it was a good way to keep myself away from some of the crazier things going on in "the ville".

It is a small world. I was actually stationed at Kadena from 80 to 83. We would rotate out of the Osan alert for month stays. I was there four times. I here you clearly about the crazy thing in the ville. We worked 48 on then 48 off. They still had the curfew then. Got locked in many a bar over night because we stayed to long! But then I was young and dumb but then. Come to think about it the only thing that has changed is I'm old and dumb now! LOL Not really, I live a toned down life now. You can't help but gain some wisdom from age.

I'm also a older guy, originally from Minnesota and also was stationed on Okinawa (Tori Station) so we have a little in common. Welcome to the site and I'll bet you'll do just fine with the background you have.

Wow, it seems we may need to have a military forum here. Always great to see around. You run into a guy and seems that no matter where you have been or what branch, you can start off a conversation and know exactly what the other guy has done and been through. A great fraternity.
