Remote time lapse software for astrophotography

I remember seeing some pics where someone setup a tripod, aimed the camera at the sky, hooked up the camera via usb and snapped a 20 second exposure every couple min for an hour, then overlapped all of them. It looked something like this...

I suppose you could string them all together for a video too if you do it long enough:

It depends on if your camera has timed interval release or not. I could set my D300 to open the shutter at timed intervals and simply wait until the camera was done and then hook it up and download the images, or I could connect it to the computer and use the Nikon Capture software to do the job for me. Usually if you're connected directly to a computer, there is software that will allow you to operate the camera. If you're really fancy, there's software from OnOne (iirc) that will allow you to use your iPhone to trigger the camera release.

Ah! I didn't even think to look on the camera, haha. Yeh, the d5000 has interval shooting. Thanks!
