Here is my report on my new Nikkor 28-105 (macro) lens. I just got it today. It was in perfect shape and I got it under $200.00.
I have not had a real chance to pla DSC_0013.jpgy with it, but I did take a couple photos with the macro mode. Here are the results. So far I am very impressed with the performance.DSC_0010_02.jpg

So far I am very happy with the 28-105mm lens. I will get a better chance to try it out this weekend. It has a real nice solid feel to it (made in Japan).
It just might end up on my D200 a lot...lol. What type of lense are you about to explore?

I want something wider, maybe like a 12-24, also still wanting an 85 and a macro like a 60. After shooting some deer the other morning a 300 would also be nice. I have a lot more wants than $. I can save a little with the 85 if I get a Rokinon but the rest are expensive.

It's called "lens lust" and I too, am a victim . . .am hunting for a wide-angle lens Would love to have the fast nikkor . . . sigh . . . but am looking into the 20 mm sigma f1.8 (blasphemy!) --have read good reviews and a pretty fast lens for 1/3 of the cost. anybody have any opinions?

ohk, have you considered the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens for a wide angle? This is the only non-Nikkor lens in my bag, and I don't hesitate to go to it when I need something wide. There's only one single lens left for me to get...

17-35mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens.

Given that, I'd have coverage from 11-200mm at f/2.8 - with a couple of primes (35/50mm) at f/1.8 to help with lower light situations.

I have the 35-70mm f/2.8 macro (@35mm) Nikkor lens, the 70-200mm alphabet soup f/2.8 Nikkor lens, so I just need to find a good deal (and the money) on a 17-35mm.

Thank you for recommendation, essence. It's funny that you bring up the tokina, because that's one I was seriously considering --even put in my shopping cart a couple of time. The lens I am currently using as a wide angle is the DX AF-S nikkor 18-55 3.5 - 5.6
and find it very limiting. I shot afield of sunflowers with this lens mounted on the D200 and the 60 mm 2.8 mounted on the D2x --there was a very distinct difference between the quality. Had the same experience with a wedding I recently shot. At first I faulted the D200, then I started to look at the lens. I'm thinking the smaller barrel (52 mm filter size) has something to do with it. this is the only Dx format lens I have and is the only one that does not give me the results I want. I think the tokina is a dX format, and may be why I took it out of the shopping cart. So, what I've started doing is renting the lenses first before buying which is what I think I will do with the tokina (because I have certainly not ruled it out.

I seem to be shooting most of my wide angle photos (right now) in 20-28 mm range. which is why I'm tempted to go with the Nikon 20 mm 2.8 -- the sigma's f1.8 is tempting, but I've tried the sigma telephoto and found it to be slow in focus and bulky.

what I shoot with are nikkor 70-300, 60 f2.8, 85 f1.8 and this 18-55 mm, which I want to replace.

Thank you so much for ideas. It really helps.

My wide stuff is still handled by my 18-200. I did just get my 70-300 in and did some test shots on a tripod and it's looking pretty good. I wish I would win the lottery but chances are slim since I never buy a ticket! lol

Well, I have had my 28-105mm (Macro) for a few months now and I am very happy with it. As a matter of fact it the lens that is on my camera the most right now.
