  1. How to build a reputation - Part 5, lucky break and another new camera

So in the best narrative fashion, time passes....... my photography skills continued to improve, my storage space continued to shrink but apart from the very occasional freelance gig things carried on as before more or less, until a new job opened up and after just over a year a small bonus plopped into my lap, the option was there for an upgrade,

  2. How to build a reputation - Part 4 New camera

SO at last a new camera was mine, an ex-rental Nikon D2x, it fell of the back of a camera hire company through Ebay and a cheekily low offer I got a camera that a few years earlier had been the industry standard for pro news photographers, sports togs and anyone who wanted a camera that could be used to bang nails in with. Was it perfect? no the hotshoe

  3. How to build a reputation - Part 3

In need of a spare or new body and having little or no cash is a pain, but during a visit from Gordon Brown after some serious flooding in the area (West Cumbria 2009) I had been lined up to try and get some photos of the PM at one location while the official new tog went to get into position at his next port of call he handed over his D2hs for me

  4. How to build a reputation - Part 2

So for about a year we continued doing what we were doing, there were a large number of small festivals being run for charity in the area and no money, again I turned to ebay after a really odd bidding strategy I ended up with a Fuji Finepix S2 Pro, 2 x Fuji Finepix S1 pros and a Nikon D40 and a small assortment of iffy Nikon lenses, they were all

  5. The 52 Project Week 3: Sad

I started this project with the intent to go down and capture some of the protesters in the park and the “sad” was how our country has turned so soft with “everyone’s a winner” attitude that these folks forgot how to actually lose. When I got to the

Rocky Mountain Mule Deer: The Mule Deer gets its named for its ears, which are large like those of the mule. This doe was with a small group - and her buck was not far behind.

Unlike the related white-tailed deer, mule deer are generally more associated with the land west of the Missouri River,

  7. 52 Photos Week 1: Where You Live

    old Nikon F2-nikon-d500_act_0075.jpg

I live in Fountain, Colorado - just south of Colorado Springs home of America’s Mountain - Pikes Peak. But for this challenge, I thought I would show you something just a bit different. When most people think of Colorado, they think the Rocky Mountains and for the most part they would be right. What they

  8. The 52 Photos Project - all welcome!

I have created a new group called The 52 Photos Project. The focus of this group is to Inspire and to be Inspired! Each week, you'll have a theme to follow. The idea is to think Out of the Box! If the theme is Weather, that could be a "Storm" or a Weathered Barn; so put some thought into it.

I'll try to lay out the whole month,

  10. Why Not A Blog Y4D20

There is this concept of the universal appeal where one shows photos to people and across cultures from desert to frozen North, and
the winner is Landscape with scattered trees, maybe a road leading away, perhaps wired into our DNA?

I do find certain landscapes just trigger appeal, such as
