  1. Winning the battle! :D

Well it looks like I'm winning this battle against the dreaded nicotine! With 2 and 1/2 hours left to go to complete my third day smoke-free, it looks like nicotine is losing it's grip on me! Woohoo!

Just over 3 days ago I would have swore that I couldn't quit this bad habit, and look at me now, I've pried that monkey off my back for

  2. The battle is continuing!

Well as I'm writing it's been 2 hours and 15 minutes without a cigarette! I estimate that eguals at least nine cigarettes I haven't smoked!
But it's hard going, and I have to consciously watch that I don't lite up without thinking about it.
I don't know of anything I can do that will help get me through this except pure willpower,

  3. The battle is on!

OK! I quit smoking with the incouragement of my friends at 7:30 pm eastern time here in the US! The first Ten minutes was done with me constantly glancing over at the clock telling myself "You can do this" over and over like a mantra! The second ten minutes went by painlessly, and I can't explain why either! After that it's been very hard

  4. Advice for a newbie to any forum

    Hey all!
Joining a forum can be a great experience, but sometimes it isn't! Now a helpful bit of advice I would offer is to introduce yourself in the intro forum(without asking questions right away)! Take a little time to fill out your profile, to help it be known that your not just a one time poster looking for someone to answer your questions.

  5. No offense, but.........

This post is more about forums than photography, but I think it's relevant to our forum.
Often you read the words "no offense, but" and someone trys to explain why their point of view is right and you are mistaken. And often it is spoken politely with a friendly attitude, with both parties striving to be helpful.

    But

  6. Advice can sometimes become clearer to you later! lol :)

I was given some great advice by one of my friends I admire, and though I was sure it was great advice I couldn't make sense of it. I thought about it off and on for days, and still couldn't understand it really.
I was told that moving the camera closer or further away instead of trying to just focus the insect in would help get a better macro

  7. Good advice can be a big help!

After posting my first shots, happy to show off my photos. People here gave me a lot of encouragement, understanding how proud you can be of your work! Because at one time or another they stood in the same position as I was in, just starting out and learning how to take a photo that isn't just point and shoot. In some cases their experiencing their

  8. The start of my newest hobbie

How do you know photography is for you? Did you know it before you got a camera? Or was it after you got your first look at photos you shot? I like gadgets and things like that, I loved to idea of seeing what your shot would look like without waiting for it to be developed! Before I got my D3100 I had the silly idea that even if I never did develope
